I've had my current bed since I was like, 8. It's half of a bunkbed, and it's just... old. It's too short for me, it's uncomfortable, and I bet its innards are nasty as hell. Any suggestions? Price isn't really an issue at the moment as I probably won't be getting it for a few month, but I'd like to get some ideas.

Go to a mattress store and figure out if you like firm or soft beds, pillow top or memory foam. They'll pursue you like a used car salesman, but at least then you'll know what you want. Get at least a queen.

This.

The first real bed I bought was a twin for some stuped reason. Let's just say it did not impress the ladies 🙂.

I picked up a frame, box spring, mattress, and sheets/blankets for like $800 at Ikea. I sleep great on my bed. The wife isn't a huge fan, but she picked it. Then again, I'd sleep fine on the floor too.

A mattress is a very personal thing. What works for one person, won't necessarily work for another. No advice can be substituted for going down to a mattress store and checking 'em out on your own. That said... I love my Tempurpedic OriginalBed.

Costco!

Get a mid level Sealy Posturepedic. Great warranty and half the price of a mattress store.

Coil count is what matters so price check from that.

Go to a mattress store and test them. I never thought I would buy a tempurpedic because I thought it was a ripoff. I have back problems and that bed was amazing. I can't wait to buy it.

Remember that each chain will sell the same mattress, but under different 'models'. I found a store that will price match anywhere, including the internet (big mistake), based on specs, not the model. Ended up saving over $550 on my $2000 mattress.

btw, I got a king sized bed, and i definitely recommend at least a queen sized bed, but kings are awesome!

Yeah I am in the market for a bed as well, I just go to the mattress store and lay on one to see which one you like better. Bed is a good investment IMO.

Which model are you going with?

You didn't save $500 on a $2000 mattress. You avoided overspending $500 on a $1500 mattress.

exactly- you can haggle an amazing ammount @ those big chain matteress stores...I didn't pay close to the sticker price- even w/ out price matching

 i own a tempurpedic, and have been using it for 6+ years now. before that i used every kind of spring mattress you can think of, and after using my tempurpedic for a week, i can't think of ever using a spring mattress again. my friend recently bought the king size for himself as well after seeing how much i like mine.
