My method: two mobile phones, set within ten minutes of each other. One's next to the bed, the other's out in the hall and is seriously irritating.

Problem solved.

For those of you who think he's being lazy - count yourself lucky that you're not in his shoes. I have much the same problem, and it's not because I want to get fired (it's not that big of a deal for me since my work is flexible). Nonetheless - I get used to even those really loud alarms within a couple weeks and ended up frequently sleeping through 2 hours of continuous alarms, after which the clocks automatically shut down. Not only would I not wake up, but my neighbors would all be pissed and think I had left for work and forgotten to turn the alarm off. The final straw for me was when I actually slept right through a fire alarm; I went to the hospital to get myself checked out. It turns out that I'm just a heavy sleeper, and when I get tired, most things simply will not wake me up. Anyway, I've just recently found a solution, and I couldn't be happier with it. There's an alarm clock from a company called Sonic Alert which has a plug-in module that's essentially a vibrating disc on a long string. You place the disc under your pillow, and when the alarm triggers in the morning, that thing goes nuts. In a worst-case scenario when I MUST wake up, I tape it to my chest. Honestly, this thing is so annoying that you cannot "auto-snooze" for long. I'd highly recommend it, and good luck.

It's not how loud it is, but how it wakes you up that will count on whether you stay up refreshed or knock back out and continually hit the snooze (which we don't want).

that is pretty cool - if i ever had an extra $150, i might think about picking one of those up, just to try it for a month...

My son used to sleep through his alarm, which was pretty annoying. I could hear it on the other end of the house, and he'd just be sleeping through it. But, I'd quietly open his door, while the alarm was going off, and he'd hear the door open!

For Christmas, we got him a Boston Acoustics Recepter Radio. So far, he's awakened to it just fine, and I never hear it from my room. I believe it's because it has a different sound everyday. He must have gotten accustomed to the old alarm, and it just became part of a dream, or something.

Even if the Recepter Radio fails as an alarm clock, it's an awesome radio!
