I need a good PCI Wireless Network Card. Which one?

Hello,

I am stuck with this DLINK POS that will not accept a signal at all. I am maybe 50 ft away from the A/P and it stays at 20%. I have heard good things about Lucent/Orinoco Cards?

If you guys have experience with it please let me know.

have you considered a usb one ? you might getter a better signal with the antenna on you desk

Mingon has a point. The back of a PC is no place for the wireless antenna; you'll want to move it around a bit.

The Orinoco cards have a great rep for PCMCIA use. Can't say about PCI. You might want to check out Practically Networked..

A good "PCI" Wireless card is the Orinoco USB Client.

Do you have the DWL-500 (which is a DWL-650 PC Card + PCI adapter)?

If so, the Orinoco PC card works well in the PCI adapter.

I tried the linksys one and it is pretty good. Not the pcmcia->adapter one but the newer one with the external antenna.

ABSOLUTELY!
If your OS and machine fully support USB...Orinoco USB client is definitely the way to go.
Resembling an external antenna, you can locate it for maximum signal strength.

PCI wireless adapters are normally little more than PCMCIA adapter cards, with a regular wireless PC card stuck in the slot.
Which means the antenna on the card is BEHIND a huge block of metal (PC case), an absolute killer of wireless signal.

I have the 520. I am going to invest in a USB wireless card tommorrow. Hopefully it will work just as good as you guys say it does.
