Hi,

I was wondering if you could recommend a good, free fax software. Windows 98 doesn't have that feature anymore (damn !) and Cheyenne Bitware, which I received with my modem, is really bad...

It has to be a regular fax application, not one of those "internet fax" thingies, e-mail add-ons and so on...

Thanx in advance.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember someone saying that you can instal the fax software from win95 into win98. Just pop in the CD and poke around. Or maybe you need to go to "Add/Remove Programs", and then click "Windows Setup" or whatever it is and poke around. I can't remember the specifics, but maybe someone else will.

i think its still on the win98 cd in the \old\ folder or something, you just have to install it manually :)

I use the fax sporadically, so I'd rather not spend money on it. I just happen to need it today, for a job application.

I use this software. It's free.

I only fax occasionaly. My wife found it easy to use and upgraded to the professional version for her office. Don't expect any tech support regardless of which version you're running. They don't answer their emails.

I tried for days to get WinFax running at her office. I got into the Symantec support boards and everyone there was complaining about v10. I said screw it and downloaded this program.

It works fine for us both. I only send an occasional fax. My wife has a dedicated fax machine at the office, but wanted to be able to preview them before printing them out. She says 90% of the faxes she receives are "junk" faxes.

It's simple to use. There are answering machine capabilities integrated into it but it's not necessary to get involved with it.

It's not as intuitive as I would like, but if you've used fax software before, you should have no problem.

I honestly don't recall the install procedure, it's been awhile. It does support specific settings for different modems if required. It will auto-detect your modem during installation and should require no more intervention in that regard unless you're having problems.
