If your on a budget try looking at the Albatron KX400-8X (VIA KT-400 w/8235 chipset).
If money's no object look at the DFI LanParty NF2 Ultra (nVidia nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset).
I have both of these running in different rigs, and found them to be quite stable.

I was thinking about gForce chipset but being the new kid on the block kinda' setup I didn't know if i should go for it. It's however a little more expensive than VIA. Is gForce worth takng a shot??

Your thoughts...

If you like Abit and are thinking about nForce2 for AthlonXP then your best best is the Abit NF7-S. The NF7-S features the MCP2-T southbridge chipset which will give you SoundStorm audio. That is a powerful, stable, feature packed motherboard which is sure to serve you well for quite a while. I'm thinking of selling my 8RDA+ to fund the purchase of one myself.

Go for the NF7... Abit>Asus. Although my NF7 is currently being repaired or replaced by newegg... Since it's dead.... It was great while it worked, and I'm sure the new one will be a champ.

Now what memory to get which will work with ABIT NF7-S -- which speed and which brand (for AMD Athlon)

Thanks!

For your common Barton 2500+ overclock, everyone seems to run a 200mhz FSB, so go for PC3200... It's all pretty much the same stuff, since it's hard to mess up bread and butter pc3200. If you want tight timings and maybe 210mhz or so, Corsair or other high end memory would be ideal. But not really necessary, imo.

That would depend on what CPU you're looking at getting. Higher speed memory will work at lower speeds, but not necessarily vice versa.

For 266MHz FSB (earlier XP's) -- PC2100
For 333MHz FSB (midrange XP's) -- PC2700
For 400MHz FSB (top-line XP's) -- PC3200

IIRC, nForce2 mobo's are limited to 3GB RAM (someone correct me on this?), but you shouldn't be needing that much anyway. If you're looking at using the dual-channel capabilities, you'll want to buy two sticks of memory that are the exact same (or spend the extra money and get the TwinX stuff and get it guaranteed).

HTH :)
