I need a free Video Comverter from AVI to MPG

I'm looking to convert Xvid to MP4 (Ipod)

google tells me about 12,442,561 different crappy programs that all do the same thing and are probably riddled with spyware, so is there a free open source converter
 
I Have AVI video I'm trying to make alot smaller so I can e-mail them to family, what is the best format to use?

That should be pretty easy.
How about AutoMKV

AutoMKV also has a wiki that was basically just started here.

Typically, AVI (mpeg4, h264, divx, xvid, etcc...) is already greater compression (smaller file) than MPG (mpeg1 or 2).

I suggest just using something like AutoMKV if you want to transcode, or compress further and/or manipulate resolutions.
 
I found aprogram called Super or something like that It take a 5 MB file and makes it into a MPEG file that is 1 MB and the same Quilty, thanks guys !
 
Go to Sourceforge and search for Mediacoder, completely free, and will do AVI to MPG or FLV or whatever you want.
