Looking for a rod under 100 dollars thats good for salt water fishing for big fish. I'm thinking of getting a 10 foot Uglystick from Modells for around 75 dollars. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

those ugly sticks aren't bad for the buck.
I'd say stick with that... if not, a daiwa rod. :)
I'm old school and still think daiwa makes the best fishing gear in the world.

Daiwa gear is pretty good stuff. you might look for Abu Garcia gear too. Shakespear is OK. Best bet is put a rod in your hand that you will use for the type of fishing you will do and when it feels good, buy it.

Once your hooked into fishing, the merchants have you. you will never be satisfied. There will always be something better someone will brag about.

The 3 I mentioned are reliable and capable of catching fish. You do the rest.:)

Damn,I think I'll go fishing now.:D

that must be a really old school ;)

some time you'll have to get your hands on a G. Loomis rod

I build my own flyfishing and spinning rods, and G. Loomis blows everything else away.
But they're pretty high priced. :(

Another vote for the Ugly Stick. Plus, they come with a lifetime guarantee so if you break it, you can get a new one. If not get a Daiwa. I stupidly bought a Zebco and I hate it.

10 feet? What do you need anything that long for? What kind of fishing do you do?

I like Penn rods, good stuff.

Daiwa has a nice line of sealine surf-rods for a bit under $100. I like ugly sticks for durability, but not much else. They are good rods no doubt, but I much prefer a faster taper(stiffer). The sealine's can cast farther as well(used em for long-casting competition when broke my primary)

<< Shakespeare, Fenrik, Abu Garcia >>

Think ya meant Fenwick ;)

BTW Moonbeam, sometimes 10' is better when it's windy to punch casts through the gusts. All preference of course.

3 12' Ugly Stick Surf Rods have lasted me 10 years so far and still in great shape, can't beat them for durability
