I have the same question, Amy. I want to get rid of my Athon 64 3200 and move to dual core while I still can.
I can't afford a new board, ram AND CPU, otherwise, I'd move to C2D.

I'm looking at the X2 4400 at Newegg, but can't make up my mind. I WON'T be overclocking.
Would it be worth it to upgrade from what I have now?

I ended up getting the Opteron 165. It is cheaper plus it comes with a decent heat sink and fan, the 4400+ didn't have the HSF. From what I read the Opteron would probably overclock better. But the 4400+ is faster at stock speeds.

So if you want the faster processor at stock speed and don't mind paying extra and buying a HSF then get the 4400+. If you don't need the extra speed or want to overclock then get the Opteron. I'm mostly looking to get dual core and might try some basic overclocking.
