I need a creative solution

I moved into my new townhouse yesterday, to date I have dropped right at 6 grand on moving and furniture. Well frankly, I am about tapped out and I have a problem. I had to throw away my 2 desks and my 2 leather office chairs. Why you ask? They were reeking with the smell of cig smoke, which I have not smoked since 4-26/06, but they were horrible. I would not take them into the new place smelling that way and trashed them.

So good people of ATOT, I need to know a creative solution for a temporary desk space that is cheap. It can be a cheap desk that you know of at a big box store, or whatever. I am open to suggestions.

I have a desk picked out I want, but it is about 400$ so that is what I will get within the month, just need something in the shorterm.

Thanks in advance,

if i remember correctly there was a dude that made all his furniture out of fed ex boxes (including his bed) might do a search for that and maybe you can see how he did his desks 🙂

I am in Charlotte, NC No IKEA around here at all :-( but a basic table is not a bad idea, as long as it holds 3 LCD's I could go for that.

get a solid door (find one if you can, if not, buy one) and buy desk legs at a hardware store and put them on - it's what I've got back home and its great. plenty of space.

I'd go with a decent folding table too. Costco usually has some good ones, if you have a membership there (or a friend who does). Nice because you will be able to use it later on, and can fold it up for storage.

I bought a Fry's office desk. It's just a really basic L shape, very utilitarion and much cheaper than what I could find at Staples or OfficeMax for the same size.

the jerker, from ikea

scratch and dent section usually has a couple of them for 60-80 bucks

new they're 120

best desk ever

Office depot has some basic computer desks for $40 or so when I went and bought mine the other day.

Edit: Congrats on still being smoke free! I remember when you started the original thread about it.
