I am currently building a new pc. My plan is to get a new x38 board this month and a new cpu probably the E6750, but I do not want to hold out for Nvidia to come out with the pci-e 2.0 cards.

I want to be able to play WOW at max settings at 1600x1200 res until the next gen Nvidia cards come out then upgrade to those. I know WOW is not graphic intensive, so I just want the cheapest one I can find that can max out the wow setttings then once the 2.0 cards come out I will be a better card to replace it so I can play my dx10 games. If anyone is selling an old dx9 card or can suggest a model of what I am looking for that would be great!

PCI-E 2.0 cards will work in current PCI-E mobos. You won't be able to own a card that takes a significant performance hit from only having the bandwidth of a "mere" 16x PCI-E slot for at least 2 or 3 years.

Depends on what you're doing. Your x16 PCIe slots will be more than wide enough to handle pretty much anything until your motherboard is obsolete. Graphics cards don't really use more than 50% of that bandwidth as it is.

No more than your AGP 4x slot became obsolete when the first AGP 8x cards out.

You should also wait for BTX form factor all around, SATA 600 and resonably priced DDR3 ram. While you are at it, don't forget hydrid hard drives and $50 HD-DVD, Blu-Ray disc drives and an 8-core Nehalem.

But seriously, who cares about PCIe 2.0?

I believe the main "feature" is allowing even higher power draw...
