I don't know how I was so retarded to think that I could have a good stereo system and not protect it with an alarm system. Now that everything is gone (after 2 break-ins), the first thing I am doing is putting in a good alarm.
My truck is a 1992 Mazda B2200 longbox (no extra cab).
My first question:
It is insanely easy to pick the locks on my truck. You can stick a coat hanger down the side of the window and pull up the lock in about 2 seconds. Even my GF opened my door by using her OWN car key in my doors. (although that didnt start the truck - just opened it)
With it being so easy to gain access to my truck, should I do anything to make the locking system any better? It seems like it might be a waste of money. I mean, anyone who REALLY wants in will find a way to do so. Why not make it easy and avoid a broken window or something. They will be scared away when the alarm goes off anyway.
My second question:
What the hell do I look for in an alarm?
I talked to a friend who used to do alarm installs and said this:
- Have a warn away (makes beeps if you get too close or something? or is that only if someone lifts the handle or bumps the vehicle?)
- Have 2 horns. 1 on the exterior, possibly mounted behind a headlight. 1 on the interior, mounted under the dash near the firewall. This way its loud as hell inside and out.
- Have 2 batterys. This way if they break off the battery terminal under the hood, the alarm is still on.
- Have a BRIGHT LED inside. Make it white he said because they are bright as hell.
He said that Alpine and Clifford make some of the best alarms. With that said, WHAT THE HELL alarm do I get? (btw, I'm getting someone to do the install for me. This way my insurance goes down 🙂)
