I know there's a lot of these threads, but I'm adding my own now. Here's my current build:

Current Build:

Intel Dual Core E8500
XFX nForce 780i 3-Way SLi Mobo
4GB Patriot Viper RAM
EVGA GTX 260 (Overclocked edition)
500gb Seagate Hard-Drive
Corsair 1000watt PSU
22" Samsung LCD Monitor
LIAN LI PC-65B Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

WHY I'm wanting the upgrade:
- Gaming Performance Increase (I can currently run Crysis 2 at ALMOST max settings, want to be able to run it at max settings and 1680x1050)
- Currently the Computer will randomly shut down after playing for more than an hour or so on certain games like Crysis 2, Battlfeild 2, etc. I think it's a heat issue....

My budget is around $2000 and I'm not looking to replace the monitor.

I don't have a brand preference except I typically have good luck with patriot ram, but I'm open to anything

My biggest concern is performance and stability, I don't care about how flashy the casing is.

I don't plan to overclock this if its not needed, I know it can decrease the lifespan of parts and I like to have my computers last a long time.

I'd like to salvage parts from my previous build if they don't need an upgrade.

I hope I've given enough information, I appreciate all the help in advance!

core i5 2500k
Gigabyte UD3 P67 motherboard
8GB (2x4GB) G.Skill 1333mhz, CL9, 1.5v
2 gtx 570's
60GB corsair force SSD
Antec or seasonic 800w-900w PSU
1tb Samsung f3 or 1tb western digital black
HAF 932
CoolerMaster hyper 212+

that is all I can think of at the moment, this is all off the top of my head, I would reccomend picking up at least a 24" 1920x1080 monitor as for 1680x1050 this is waaay over kill. Hell ONE gtx 570 is over kill.

check the hot deals forum for sales, there is a gtx 570 listed for $275 at the moment.

You may want to consider doing with 2x gtx580s or 2xhd6970 for a little bit better graphix. Chances are you will not see BIG difference between 2x570s and 2x580s or 2x6970s, in today's games, but in 3 years from now you might. Dont buy a dual gpu card, as long as you have pcie slots available it is always better to go sli/crossfire with 2 cards because of cooling.

I would go with 570's because of the price vs performance, difference in performance for gtx 580 to 570 is ~15% while price difference is about $100 ($275 vs $390)

Thank you everyone for the replies, this DEFINETELY helps me out...Any suggestions for a case mfenn? I ask because fitting the video cards in that thing is tricky these days because they are so big, they cramp up against the hard-drive bays.

Antec P183 case will fit any video card you throw at, plus it it provides good cooling, quiet and prevents dust coming into the case with the front filters.

Very good recommendation IMHO. The Cooler Master HAF series is also very popular and spacious, but some (like myself) find them to be fugly.

The Force 120GB is actually an SSD, not an HDD. While you could certainly use only the SSD, most people find 120GB too limiting and thus the standard config is an SSD for the OS and applications plus an HDD for games and media.

BoomerD slaps mfenn with a wet trout for having poor taste in computer cases...:p
