A little fan inside my HP Laserjet 4V died, and HP wants $65 + s/h. I think I can do better than that. I bought a similar model from mouser.com but unfortunately it came with only two wires. I put it in the printer, but the printer still gives error code 58.3, which apparently means "dead fan", even though the fan was working.
I dissected the old fan (the one that really is dead) and it has a little IC chip on it with 8 legs. It's circuited into the 3rd wire, and apparently lets the printer know that it is still working. The chip is labeled 6407A and in smaller typeset 4837.
So anyone with any information on getting a 40mm 5V fan with 3 wires, please help me out.
