I need a 2 Month hobby...and I need it bad !

I am leaving the country in August.

I am leaving my current job June 27th...but as of NOW, I am not expected to come into the office for anything. I am basically off of work but getting paid for 1 more month.

For the next 2 months I need something to do to fill my days.

Any suggestions ?

How about doing some volunteer work somewhere?

unfortunately...I will need to be available to my job for the next month.

Therefore, anything I do will require the ability to stop at a given moment.

Got any power tools? Woodworking is pretty fun.

Own a home? Landscaping/gardening can be rewarding as well.

you could rent the entire series of some show like 24, Sopranos, or Six Feet Under and watch it front to back.

golf!

isn't that an expensive hobby ?

Depends...define "expensive".
For entry-level stuff:

Clubs: $100-150 (or less if you don't mind older stuff)
Glove: $5
Balls: varies greatly, but you can pick them up for less than $1 per ball at Target, etc.

Greens fees: depends where you live. Here in Atlanta they range from $9 for the local 9-hole muni to $100+ for the swankier courses. Average price for a decent public course here in town is about $30 for 18 holes.

How tough of a game is golf , to pick up ?

Find a driving range that has some clubs you can use. Head out and try and hit some balls. If you can do ok, you're good to go. If you can't hit the thing to save your life, try something else 😉.

It depends on you. Some people pick it up quickly while others play for years and still suck.

If you're a fairly patient person, it shouldn't take you all that long to be able to whack the ball in more or less the right direction. It took me a few months to be able to hit the ball consistently and about a year to break 100. I've been playing for about 4 years now and usually shoot either side of 90.

The ideal way to get into golfing is to start by taking some lessons. Instill good habits right from the start instead of developing bad ones that take forever to undo.

Failing that, go to the range with a friend who plays and have them give you some pointers. Get comfortable hitting balls with various clubs before you go play a round. It's no fun to be hacking away on the tee box with 10 people watching you and not being able to hit the damn ball. 😉

And yet you still play golf......freaking hypocrite. 😛
