I was very close to getting a 21" CRT, but I've now decided that a 19" will make much more sense for me in terms of cost, space available and the possibilty of future display purchases (such as the next generation of LCD's). Anyway, choosing a 21" wasn't that hard, but there are so many quality 19" CRT's that I'm really not sure what to buy. I was looking at the NEC FP955 (should I save the cash and get an FE950+?). What do you guys think? I'm not worried about price for a 19", since almost every 19" that I've found I can get for under $400 (not including shipping). I saw a 19" in 1600x1200 resolution (it was a Sony) and I didn't think that the icons and text were too small, so if you have any ideas for a 19" with good 1600x1200 performance, that's great. So what 19" CRT's should I be looking at? Thanks.

I dunno about you guys, but I got a Dell P991 and it just rocks (not in the exterior design though). I saw the P992 which is awesome but I got the P991 for $350CAN and they are both based on Sony tubes.

I like my NEC FE950+ black monitor ;). Friend got a Song 19inch....couldn't justify paying $150 more for it, i'm very satisfied w/ my NEC too.

best option is to actually visit the stores and see which one looks the best to you. Each person will have preferences for what looks good. I tested several monitors and finally settled on a high end KDS, but other folks have mentioned good units. View 'em first.

Well, I think I've ruled out the Sony. And for most of the day I've been set on the Samsung 900NF. But then I looked at the NEC FP955 again and I'm deciding between that and the Samsung. Any thoughts on just those two?

That is too bad to hear. I love my Sony G400 I picked up at Sams Club for $300 w/ 4 year warrenty. It is large but the picture is crisp, clean, and very flat.

I'm telling you, IMHO get the Samsung! The screen is crystal clear and infinately flat! You won't regret buying that monitor..........

I have two 1200NF's and sell almost all Samsung monitors with the systems I build, I let them come look at mine and they want one.......I've had one problem and Samsungs T/S & C/S took care of it very nicely, offered an option to upgrade the 17" with the problem for a great price, and the shipping was very quick! All in all, I think Samsung and Sony are tops but you pay to much for the name with Sony.............

NEC is a top monitor brand too! :)
The 19 inch NEC MultiSync FE950+ is a very nice monitor. I got a NEC MultSyncFE950+ monitor in black for $274 at bestbuy! Was not a bad deal at all. Its a flat screen too. To tell you the truth it looked just as good as the $399 and $499 sony 19 inch monitors i saw if not better. It is just as nice as the Samsung 19 inch monitors if not better. Its a top of the line montior for sure the 19 inch NEC MultiSync FE950+!!!

I think you should get a 19 inch NEC MultiSync FE950+ monitor.
