Is there a certain kind of bread which is ideal for French toast? I just bought plain white bread.
I use the $2 French bread loaf you can buy at the grocery store bakery and let it sit for a couple of days so it gets a little stale (basically I eat half of it the first couple of days, then make french toast with the rest). Slice it thick. Milk, eggs, a little cinnamon, let it soak and plop it in a frying pan. If the bread is not stale it won't absorb enough of the egg mixture. Being stale and sliced thick is pretty much the key to french toast.
Cinnamon Raisin Bread > all.
Hawaiian bread > most.
