I'm thinking about a career change - and wanted to take some math classes so that I could qualify to teach math in high schools. My state requires 21 credits - so since I have 7 credits already I need an addition 14...

Has anyone done anything like this with an online university?

How cheap can the classes be?

Thanks,

Don R.

shouldn't be too hard to find some info online. check out some random college websites that you think might have online courses.

Tuition looks like ~$1000-1500 a course (3-4 credits)... ugh!

get accepted to a university and it will be cheaper.

what level are you starting at? you can transfer credit from a community college to a university. check to see what will transfer.

before deciding on a university go visit their math lab to see how organized they are. this is the place where you go to get help on your math problems for free.

i have a math minor ( 20 hours ) so i assume you'll be taking most of the classes I did.
as an engineer i only had to take one more math class for a minor.

you might need to look into it more. there were a lot of people majoring in mathematics and mathED. the math ED people were going to be teachers.

I have my BS and an MBA. both in management.

My dad is a former college adjunct for calculus I, II, III, discrete math, etc. (his former college does not offer online/night/weekend courses) - he would be my tutor / person to go to.

the neat thing about teaching at high school is that you can take on additional roles too if you have the desire. my math teacher also coached our volleyball team.

i think it would be fun to tack on p.e. on the side. you'd get paid for to do exercise.

maybe you can take those credits at a community college then? it's around $30 (price varies) a credit.
