Wow, I'm a bit shaken by the experience. Luckily I only got the pee scared out of me.

I was driving in a poorly lit residential area. I was driving the speed limit and all the sudden this stupid lady, dressed in dark colored clothing, darts in front of me. Needless to say I slammed on the brakes, but holy crap people. I realize it was a pedestrian crossing and that I should have expected someone to be crossing. But man... if you are wearing dark clothing, don't assume that everyone can see you.

Again, luckily I didn't hit her, but I came way closer than I ever would have wanted to.

I ended up driving 10 mph under the speed limit the rest of the way home. (yes, 15 mph).

Close call man, good thing you were paying attention or it could have gotten real ugly. Imagine if you had looked down for a second or something. Similar thing almost happened to me a few weeks ago, but with a large black cow standing in the middle of the street. Scary stuff.

semi-traumatic experience.... I think I'm allowed screwing up break and brake.

Since you corrected it in the OP you are forgiven.

I know how you feel though. Sucks when it happens. Atleast you know you didnt hit her and (presumably) you werent in the wrong

I'm running over it in my head still to try and see if I was in the wrong. I don't think I am, but still feel like there should have been something I could have done better to prevent it.

I know where all the crosswalks are in my area for this very reason. I'm very careful about this.

This is one reason we don't drive much at night. The local rancher lets his cattle out along the road to graze as there ain't much left to eat on the other side of the fence. AZ is a fence-out state so if you hit a cow you're legally required to pay off the negligent prick who lets his cattle into the road.

I nearly hit a guy on the highway once. Black guy in black clothes on a black road with no street lights at night. He was just casually walking across the highway. He didn't really seemed concerned about my car driving down 70mph towards him. Scared the crap out of me.

Not being racist or anything but..

Why do black guys/gals walk at night in dark clothing? I nearly hit someone because of this, and notice them now all the time on how they dress at night.
