I miss 16-bit console graphics

Back in the day you have the 16-bit consoles like super nintendo and sega genesis. Those graphics were awsome. I don't think they should ever stopped making those type of games because it's a different experience than these new 3d games. Donkey Kong was never the same. A lot of games are probably more fun on the 2d graphics. They are simple yet fun and still look decently good. Some new 3d games are just over complicated and become boring. I miss the 16-bit generation.

They have a Sonic collection (6 or 7 Sonic games) out for the Gamecube.
I think they're basically the 2D originals, just for the Gamecube instead.

Yes they are, I have it. Biggest problem with it is that it lacks SonicCD which was the best game in the series IMO.

VIAN- I think you mean to say that you miss 2D graphics. I still have my SNES hooked up and let me tell you, you don't actually miss that level of quality ;)

Higher res 2D games with today's capabilities would look a staggering amount better then the SNES/Genesis era titles.

Heh, it's funny how you always remember a game looking better than it really did. Anyone fired up the original Doom in a while? I did about a year or two ago and it was brutal! Doom is the reason I got into computers in the first place but comparing it to modern games is like comparing a work of art to a 3 year old's crayon scribbles on my friends fridge! Just goes to show you how far games have come in the way of graphics, physics, effects, etc.

I like privateer 2 much more than freelancer.

gfx are worse, but gameplay more than make up for it. In fact it's the only reason i still have my pentium 1 60mhz chugging along. Because some wisea** bitc* in M$ decided to dump support for DOS in winXP. And i don't feel like double booting for just one game.

*sigh*

Yeah, I miss some of the classic RPGs on the C64. Ultima IV and V are among my favorite games of all time. And sitting in my dorm with my buddies until 6am playing Madden on Sega was some great fun.

Graphics never beats gameplay. Fallout 2 may not look like much but it is a lot more fun than most RPGs that came after it.

Shadowrun on the Genesis was fun and sweet.
What about Defender of the Crown on the C64? That was awesome fun. They just released the remake and its not too hot.

Speaking of old games...

does anyone know where I can get an emulator for Neuromancer? It came out for the Apple II and C64 in the mid 80's.

its not the same with an emultor. The experienc of having the console with the crappy cartriges that you have to blow into, thats awsome, plus i dont have a remote controller, my biggest problem, i need to buy one, any recommendations

That's nostalgia. It sucked back in the day when you had to do it repeatedly just to get a bloody game to work. My friends' NES took like 5-6 "blowings" into the cardridge and resetting it perfectly into the system before it would work.

If you want a controller for emulation, I suggest getting one of those PSX to USB adaptors so you can use the PS1 or PS2 Dual Shock controller for it.

No, blowing is not awesome. I still have my nes and play it occasionally, and blowing is NOT a good thing. I freaking hate it when the game won't start. One of these days I'll get a nice top loading nes and say goodbye to blowing. I do agree that emulators aren't as fun though. But hey, just get your old console out. I still play my snes all the time and it's hella fun. And even though there haven't been any games out for it since 1996 or so, it still has a huge library and you should be able to find something that might interest you.

There are new games that are very much the same style of gameplay as the old 16-bit era games.

Viewtiful Joe comes to mind right away.

Also Ikaruga (both those on the GCN). Haven't picked up Viewtiful Joe yet, but the demo was a blast... would've played it more if the Soul Calibur 2 demo hadn't been on the same disc. :p Of course, I'm not even halfway through F-Zero GX, and I *still* haven't beaten Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker... lousy full-time jobs that I need to pay my rent.

I just miss game developers (at least some of them) actually realizing that graphics couldn't make up for crap gameplay...

I loved my SNES. SMW, Yoshi's Island, Zelda, FF2 & 3, and Secret of Mana were all beautiful and engaging. On the 3D and sheer fun front, F-Zero, Mario Kart, Super Tennis, and Super Contra were all great. Yep, Nintendo locked me in as a fan for life with the SNES.

shadowrun, wow i remember that game. i'd always do the renraku (wow, i still remember this name) runs that the Mr. Johnson that had nice manners with his associate, forgot his name. always gave you most money for jobs.

hacking into accounts, to steal info, then selling was fun too forawhile.

Todays games are too complex, games shouldn't have to a GUIDE book to find your way through it.

I see kids today and they like the simpler games - buying used game exchange.

Only old gamers like us buy the "new" zelda game, knowing its not as fun as BURNING ALL THOSE TREES WITH THE CANDLE!

Anyone remember LoadRunner.

Zelda and Excite Bike, O yeah. Rocketteer and Double Dare!

Then they whole bit graphic ploy got out of hand. 16 bit? No, 32 bit! Then the Nintendo 64! Then the PSx, Saturn, and DC with its 128 bit!

PSX and Saturn were 32bit before the n64. Wierd though, Sega was seemingly doing pretty well with the Genesis only to have Saturn and DreamCast not get anywhere, now no more consoles from Sega :(

I like today's graphical impovments, but I find that gameplay has dropped as a result. When you couldn't sell a game on looks you had to make it play well. But today most games seem sold on looks. Give me mediocre graphics and awesome gameplay and I'll shell out 40-60$.

I agree withz0mb1e, but I can't stand ADOM. I can't lower myself to that.
