I might quit my job...

Naturally, I won't quit until I have confirmed I can get the other.

Current job: office staff at a supermarket..~3 years experience, responsible for large amounts of cash (frequently $20,000+)...making $8/hr with a terrible schedule (sometimes 6am-3pm, sometimes 2pm-11pm, etc).

Next possibility: part-time teller at a bank..starting ~$8.50/hr, 10am-6pm MWF (I have class on T/H), every other Saturday..take-home pay will be about what I get now, except I'll be working a few hours less per week. I've been told the monthly incentive check is roughly $300, so if it's all averaged, I should make ~$75/week more than I do now.

The best part? No early mornings, late nights, holidays (if so, very rarely)...and if it's slow, they don't care if you're online or not. Compare this to my current work computer agreement, approximating 'if you use a computer for any other reason than work, you can lose your job'.

I'm hopeful.. 🙂

If I were you, I would stay with publix for two more years... if you have worked for them averaging above certain amount of hours per week for 5 consecutive years, you have a good portion of their stock, and other good benefits you can leave with.

Which bank is the other position with? did you apply in person?

I moved out of state for three months and broke my streak, and just passed a solid year again. I'd get a 5yr service award, but I don't think I'd get the stock..I'll have to check.

Campus USA Credit Union is the bank..I know someone who works there -- the positions haven't been posted publicly yet, but hopefully I'll have first shot at it.

Edit: almost everyone is leaving, too -- by August, we'll probably have about four office people left...I'd need a serious raise in order to stay, and I might be able to argue for one..I'm the primary office staff trainer at the moment.

I wasn't sure about the 5 consecutive year part.. you might want to double check that.

Also find out what the benefits are after being with publix for 5 years... it's supposed to be pretty decent from what I heard

Also, our assistant CAM is gone, and our CAM is leaving in about 3 weeks..if we get awesome replacements, that's one thing..if they suck, then that will probably push me over the edge, so to speak.

I'll check on the benefits, but I don't plan on staying with them long-term..it's just to get through school.

I have to say, though...being at work at 6am one day, and staying until 11pm the next really, really sucks..especially when you live 20 miles out. I have to be there at 6am the day after my 21st b'day..heh..forgot to ask off 😛
