I think my moniter might be dying. It is a Veiwsonic E655 and it's pretty old. I need advice on a good moniter of 15"-17"for gaming. I want a CRT and I have a budget of ~$150.
Any advice?

1280x1024 refresh rate 66Hz?
i don't think that's a good buy.

for CRTs, you should get one with a refresh of 75hz or higher, unless you want headaches all day long.
unless of course you look at your monitor at 1024x768. then it won't matter.

buy a samsung.

For my games I use 1024 by 768.

me too. but only 10% of my computing is for games. 90% of the time, i'm browsing the net, bidding on crap from ebay, organizing my mp3s. on 1280x1024 res, that can really start to hurt your eyes and brain after a few hours.

I was thinking of going for the samsung 19" 955DF which is still in the $150 ballpark.

Take a look at the Viewsonic G71f+SB for $159., it's an aperature grill instead of a shadow mask. The following statement is usually hotly debated but I've always used aperature grill monitors and I love them, much brighter IMO. Of course I don't have a lot of comparison experience, but I looked at the A70 in a store and the brightest was cranked and it still wasn't bright enough, and it looked washed out. Maybe the E series is better. I almost bought the 955DF, heard that is a good monitor.

I bought my original Viewsonic because it had a Trinitron tube, as does the G71f.

My 2 cents.
