Great benefits, $20000 for joining, help you pay for your college (The one I am going to is pretty expensive), paid training, help you find a job based on your interests....

Good idea? yay's or nay's?

$20k for joining? Do you have a a medical training? Or is some recruiiter making a promise. I know current troops who are reenlisting for less and they are already trained veterans. $15k is more like it for infantry.

It's an enlistment bonus. I talked to a recruiter today. It's on the website too.

The average is $15k for infantry, so how do you think you qualify for $20? Good luck, regardless.

Don't you get higher bonuses according to your ASVAB scores?

Yep.

How much of a bonus?

I have a friend who recently enlisted. He goes off to basic in September. He had to retake the ASVAB and he said it was a lot easier than the one he took back in high school.

ASVAB, I took those in high school. Got all high 90's even on the automotive.

The bonus must be up from last year. I did a purchase appraisal for a couple last year and the husband use his bonus of LESS than $10,000 for the downpayment. I really felt bad for the wife, "See you in 18 months honey". By the way a contractor, who was related to the lender, was flipping this house and making THE BUYERS do all the finish work while charging an outragious sales price. I gave them a fair appraisal and saved them several thousand off their sales price.

Keep in mind the 20K is a mere pittance compared to a missing limb. Wait uintil this administration is out of office , that way you won't have to worry about being used as cannon fodder for the asshole and his cronies currently occupying the White House. America's future depends on kids like you, it's be a shame to waste such an important resource, especially over in the sh!thole known as Iraq populated by blood thirsty savages.

It's a choice you gotta make on your own.

You're welcome to let your family and friends pursuade you, but you can't let their opinions decide your future.

Joining now means you will not pass go, you will go directly to iraq.

From what my bro told me, don't believe a word the recruiter says. There is a very good chance you wont get the MOS you want - you can choose between grunt, grunt, or grunt.

I have also heard the same thing, along with making sure everything you are promised is in your contract if it is not then walk. If you rememeber what is at stake here then the negotiation should be easier.

Have fun in Iraq.

Don't forget the Anthrax injections.

As far as the enlistment bonus goes, it gets taxed and it is broken up over your enlistment. You'll receive part of it every year on the anniversary of your enlistment. FWIW, go ANG same benefits minus the enlistment bonus but less chance of getting blown up by an IED.
