Well, I messed up. I bought a fan to replace the dead one on my video card but it doesn't fit. I was prying at the ramsinks on my video card to see if they would budge since the new cooler came with smaller ramsinks (the stock ones were blocking the new cooler from fitting on there). Anyway, one came off easily but the other one tore off one of the memory chips as I was prying on it. Damn. There goes a perfectly decent video card.

I didn't want to upgrade now but I ended up buying an ATI 9800 NP from newegg.com for $250.

Probably have to reload Windows now to get this new card working.

Damn damn damn...

Thanks.

I had great plans of setting up a second gaming system with that card for when friends come over so we could geek out for hours on some of my favorite games. Fry's had an Athlon 1800 XP+ CPU with motherboard for $59.95. I almost bought one today. Would have made a decent gaming machine...

Really sorry to hear about that happening to your old card. If you use driver cleaner like davesimmons suggested you should be able to get away without doing a reinstall of windows. Best of luck to you.

lol. I almost did something stupid like that. I was trying to put on the HS to my 2500+ and I accidently stabbed the motherboard with a knife several times(i didn't that tool u need to clip the heatsink). Thank God nothing happened.

That's too funny.

Yes, I had a similar experience a while back with my boss...I 'accidentally' stabbed him several times with a knife...I don't work there anymore...

Moral of the story: You should never use a 9" chefs knife to install a processor fan or to remove a piece of lint from your boss's shirt...hehehe.

(Obviously, I'm kidding about the boss comments-lest anyone think they should notify the FBI...)
