You are clearly 100% in the wrong on this.
Morons who enter an intersection when they can't clear it before the light changes cause gridlock and should be hung from the nearest lightpole.

It's too dammed bad a cop didn't see all this transpire...your post would be MUCH different.

wow judging from your racism and stereotyping I can see you're extremely homophobic, probably inbred, missing a chromosome, and as such unable to legally drive more than that old tractor your daddy/brother setup in your backyard for you to pretend in.

I hate that too... but sometimes you're damned if you go and damned if you don't.

There are some intersections I've seen where you'll never make it through unless you catch yourself in the intersection because the lane you are turning onto never clears up-- people coming from the opposing streets will fill it and the intersection up and when your light is green you have nowhere to go.

Like when there's a line of cars turning left with an arrow, and their arrow ends, you can see them bunch up as close together as possible and each one will cut the corner a little tighter. Had that happen the other day - I was turning right, and I would have been turning parallel to a guy who was turning left from the road that I was turning onto to the road that I was turning from. There were two lanes and a gap to my left, so essentially the width of 3 traffic lanes before he got his "entrance" to the road, and he nearly hit ME because he had cut onto the opposite side of the road to try to squeeze in before some traffic that had just gotten a green light coming in the opposite direction.

I hate those people. I also hate people that try to cross you to turn into the farthest lane from where they were turning from and then act like it's YOUR fault they have to slam on their brakes (because you were already there first). Twice it happened to me on the same street, once when I was turning left during a gap in oncoming traffic and some bitch in a mustang on a cell phone wants to turn right - I was already in the middle of the street more than halfway through my turn when she starts turning into the rightmost lane, then corrects and heads for the left lane, and lays on the horn when she realizes I was there first. First time it happened, I was turning right and some douche in a smaller truck was turning left, and he shoots straight for the far-right lane that I'm halfway into already, and once again, I get honked at. God I hate people who can't drive.

It's not like you did not know traffic was backed up. In the future when you see traffic backed up like that, wait until there is room for you to clear the intersection before proceeding. Next time, a cop might see you. But I thought your response to her was funny.

There are intersections all over the country where the traffic is so steady that if you don't pull into the intersection when the light is green and turn after it changes, there's no way you'll EVER be able to turn left. Anyone who claims they wait behind the line and turn only when there is a large enough gap is a dirty liar; at these intersections you would have to wait hours for the traffic to die down before you see a large enough gap to turn while the light is still green. And I don't think even the most obtuse, ticket-happy cop would ticket someone for doing that.

You handled it beautifully. I mean that, too. The other people in this thread are probably the same time of bitch. "YAK YAK YAK, I OWN THE ROAD AND I'M NEVER WRONG, YAK YAK YAK." Go flip your SUV over. I've accidentally misjudged the space left between two lights before, and I usually get sympathetic looks from sane drivers once I make sure they know I feel bad about it. This bitch didn't even give him a chance to look sorry. You guys have no moral high ground here.

MY, my, OP, you obvsiously struck a blow for impotent weenies in the wrong everywhere with your Richard Simmons like show of arm-flailing bitchy pique at the following light . . . or so you think.

You're lucky she didn't get out of her Eddie Bauer Model Expedition right then and there and lay a beat down on you with her purse.

Meh...in crappy traffic like what you get during rushes in DC, getting stuck in an intersection happens occasionally to the best of us. She went to far with that bullshit, but you went to far with the mocking that followed. Not that any of us who live in large cities can claim that we have never done something like that before though.

If you block an intersection you need to learn how to drive. I would have layed on the horn like the lady did as well, I generally do it once every few days for every idiot out there that blocks an intersection. And I'm talking lay on the horn for a GOOD 30 seconds so the asshat knows what an idiot he is.

If you block an intersection YOU are the cause of all traffic backups and deserve to get yelled at, honked at, made fun of and publicly embarrassed until you get it right.

Looks like it's been pretty well established who was in the wrong.

Anyway, there's an intersection on my way home from work where a four-lane, one-way street is crossed by a two-lane, two-way street. The signal is controlled by a traffic cop at rush hour to keep things moving. People on the one-way street who want to turn left are often backed up because traffic has filled up where they want to go.

If someone pulls into the intersection wanting to turn left and sits there blocking cross traffic, the cop will direct them to get out of the intersection and go straight ahead. This will mean at least a 15 minute additional journey while they fight more traffic to get back to where they were.

Yet it happens almost every day - someone pulls into the intersection, blocking cross traffic, even though they KNOW they have nowhere to go. No excuse for that.

Uhh I'm quite sure in some cases there's another reason for the traffic being blocked and you're just making it worse.

I had a time when traffic was flowing normally through an intersection in the middle of town, and as I'm traveling through the intersection, traffic suddenly stops for no apparent reason. I assume that someone was trying to make a left turn up ahead and dipshitus maximus would not pass on the right like everyone in this area does (including the police and city buses). To me, there was absolutely no indication that traffic would abruptly halt as the only light after that one is at least half a mile ahead and I've never seen traffic backed up that far.

Oh and traffic started moving before the light even turned yellow, so I was still good, but the fact is that I had no reason to believe that traffic would stop nor have I ever had a situation like that before at that location.

What I do think is definitely improper. Right before that light when going West, there's another intersection, except this one doesn't have a light at it. When people stop at the light up ahead, they tend to block this intersection and there are sometimes cars that have to wait when they really shouldn't. That bothers me since these cars know they have to stop and still won't allow others to go from a side street.

Another annoying thing is how people make left turns when going west at the light when it specifically says not to from 7AM to 10AM and 3PM to 6PM (I think those are the times... it might be off by a little) yet people still do it. I've been held up quite a few times by some douche that can't read.

The law does not allow for misjudgements. In Georgia (the traffic code book even has cases listed for just such), you would have gotten a ticket. If you did it yesterday at my first light off of the interstate, it would have been a sure thing as the Suwanee PD had an officer watching for idiots blocking the intersection. I will admit though, he would not have left the siren running, but the lights sure say 'busted'.

There have been plenty of occasions where I did not intentionally block an intersection, but the intersection was so big that I was unable to determine where I was going to stop and that is usually coupled with an accident up ahead or something out of the ordinary like that. When that happens, I try to take the opportunity to back up but 9/10 times there are 3 or 4 cars behind me which did the same thing so I am screwed. It happens to the best of us man. Don't be so uptight about it.

Bullshit?

The only BS would be the 30 second honk After thinking about it it's more like 10-15 seconds. Many times other good drivers will join in and lay on the horn as well just to let the idiot know he is not supposed to block an intersection.

We have roundabouts here in yank land. I've driven through a few, in North Carolina even.

:p

I'm saying it's BS because I'm sure you've pissed people off on the road plenty of times. Now, whether or not he deserved the honk is a different matter. Just calling BS on your claim that you've never blocked an intersection, is all.
