I wouldn't. Things can always go wrong between now and the time you get your job...

Also, with no current job, you won't be able to find a very favorable loan...

I have a job. I work 30+ hours a week doing computer support + full time college student.

My rent is cheap because my roommate owns the house, so I help her pay her morgage and half the utilities which works out to ~$250.

This guy is either 14, or has extremely rich parents who spoiled the hell out of him. Living on next to nothing to have a nice car is no way to live, IMO.

None of the above :). Double that age and negative on the rich parents. I've done too much waiting around myself for the good things in life and regret it. With a good college ed and the current job market I think it's safe for the op to think positive and go for it. Plus, youth is on his side. If, by chance, things don't go right he's still young and will bounce back. IMO, life is too short to try to second guess every move you make. If you see something you want (and it's within reason like what the op described) then go for it and things will turn out for the best.

go ahead and go into debt for a luxury item, without the means to pay for it, yet.

youre the oil that makes the capitalism machine keep chugging along.

i agree with most the people here.. get your job.. save up for a nice down payment, get a lower apr.. 9-2x aero's are super hot now.. just wait till january, or even this time next year, and you'll find the exact one you want, and you'll be a lot happier with your purchase, instead of living paycheck to paycheck wondering if you'll be eating mac and cheese or ramen that night after you get out of your 9-2x aero...

buying a car when you don't need to is a pointless waste of money. Just think about how much more the insurance would be on a newer car. If you really think you can afford it, then pretend you're making $400/month payments on a new car by puting that much into a savings account and pretending you spent it. Once you have done that for a year and don't miss the money, then go ahead and buy. Anyways, won't your credit score improve once you get your newer, better paying job, enabling you to get better loan terms?

NEVER sign into a contract (house, car, etc.) without having the cash (or job) IN HAND!

If you've already signed a contract to take employment, then go for it. Otherwise, wait. You could be jobless longer than expected, and you DO NOT want to find out what happens if you miss a car payment.

Please stop giving people bad advice. Waiting until he gets a job can't hurt, while not being able to pay for the car can hurt his credit for years.

Even after getting the job I wouldn't recommend buying a new car if it's not necessary. I know it's tempting after graduating college and finally making some real money to spurge on a new car but loan payment for 36-60 months suck. After the initial excitement of a new car wears off in about 3-6 months, you're going to hate making monthly car payment.

Get a job, wait a year, save a bit, and then decide. There will always be newer and better cars out.

Get the job first, then go car searching.

Very good advice
Please do not count something you do not have yet. I have a friend that was training for a tech job ($45k) a year and he went out to buy a $20k car and also $10k in furniture. A month before he started working, the company went belly up. Just get the job first then take it from there.

NO

Any more obvious questions I can answer?

Cars are the biggest waste of money that exist on this planet. Get a new $12K car AFTEr you get your first paychecks at $40K+. $20K is a bit pricey for your income. Sorry, but it is. You don't even own a home yet.

So you're just 28, and you've done "too much waiting around for the good things in life and regret it."

If by "too much waiting around" you mean not waiting until you can pay for something so you buy it on credit, please be careful. I've met some people like that, and they usually end up in bad financial straits. They also typically justify buying things on credit by saying "I deserve it." They should be saying "I can't afford it yet."
