I made a typo in my name when installing Windows XP.

Now the mis-typed name is propagated thru the system about a million times. Is there a way to do a mass change on my name to correct this problem?

I assume you are talking about your actual name, not the computer name?

I don't know of a way to change it, aside from reinstalling. Probably something in the registry, or you may be able to reinstall over top of the current install and change it that way?

Yeah, I know I can just change a few values in the registry to change the registered owner. What about the other half million occurences of the misspelled name in the registry, folders, etc...?

I would say the easiest is to open regedit Edit>search type in the misspelled name and change all occurances. I doubt that there are many programs that store your name outside of the registry. But then again. 😉

after you use regedit and get all the ones in the registry to find files containing text with your misspelled name, then open them up in notepad and do a search for it in that document and change it right there... that will get you 99% of occurances... (the only one i haven't figured out how to get is MS office... i'm thinking about reinstalling..)
hope that helps

Josh
