I made a huge mistake!

Dude I'm getting a Dell... but I ordered an Inspiron e1505 with great specs EXCEPT for the 40gb hd and small battery... and they shipped early! I was going to call on Monday and ask them to swap it for the 80gb and get an additional 9 cell battery. Would have only costed $160 or so. Would they add the battery to my order and ship it separately or do I have to try to cancel the order?

Edit: I did call Dell. Their CS/sales is closed on weekends.

yah let's ask an internet forum instead of calling dell ... seems like a good idea to get what you need done.

You can get a bigger drive for cheaper.

Where can I get an 80gb SATA drive for $60?

You're not getting an 80GB SATA drive for $60 from Dell either. That's what it cost as the "upgrade" to the 40GB, so you have to include the price of the 40GB and then the $60.

They are not going to ship you a larger Hard Drive while you already have the 40GB. You'll have to cancel the order or not accept the package on delivery. The battery is $99 and they will ship that to you direct.

Well I know they wouldn't sell me an 80gb for $60, but I'm assuming that you can't get much for a 40gb drive on eBay, Craigslist, fs/ft, etc. Not sure why anyone would buy such a small hard drive unless it's to replaced a failed one. For an enclosure, PATA is cheaper. In any case, the addition 40gb for $60 is a good deal.

I looked on the site to see if I could order a battery but they don't seem to sell them separately.

owned.

And it's "cost" not "costed" as in your OP.

Oh. I know nothing of Dell and their models. Didn't know it was a laptop. 😉

If you read a little more carefully, you would have. When was the last time you saw a desktop with a 9 cell battery upgrade available?

FYI, if think you could use the standard 6 cell and an additional 9-cell battery, you can pick up new OEM batteries for the XPS M140 on E-Bay for a reasonable ~$100 shipped. In fact, there's currently one for $105 here: http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-OEM-DELL-...7QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

too bad it doesn't fit on a e1505 🙁

I was wondering about that, but the OP had linked to that particular battery, and I wasn't feeling motivated enough to do my own research about the appropiate battery choice. Regardless, cheaper batteries can be found on ebay.
