I love the smell of a tobacco shop, so I have a question.

I have never smoked. But that smell is delicious. Is there any way to taste/enjoy it without becoming addicted? Chew it? What about a pipe or something?

It's not something I want to do all the time for fear of cancer, but I am curious.

I realize this is a stupid question.

You want chewing tobacco? Or tobacco in general?

I find cigars to be extremely tasty, if you want relatively cheap, get some Gurkha's and pair it with a nice single malt scotch or whiskey. Take relatively nice pulls and swish the smoke in your mouth to get the flavor. Do not inhale like you would a cigarette. This enhances the flavor of the alcohol, and the alcohol enhances the flavor of the cigar. Pair this with good company, and you got yourself a good time.

Smoke a pipe. Its far less harmful than cigs or cigars. That smell you are smelling is pipe tobacco.

Pipe tobacco smells good, cigar tobacco tastes good.

Just don't do it regularly if you don't want to get addicted. Don't keep them around the house to avoid temptation. Just buy one cigar every now and then for a special occasion.

That's a myth AFAIC. Burning tobacco is burning tobacco. Lung cancer may be reduced since inhaling is reduced, but you still can get mouth/throat cancer, as well as gastrointestinal cancers, and others related to burning tobacco. 100% of the pipe smokers I've known(3) died from smoking related disease.

That said, an occasional pipe, cigarette, or anything else won't hurt much. Make sure it's occasional. Either that, or use non-burned tobacco. My preference is snus and nasal snuff. With the snuff especially, there's a huge range of good smells, and it won't hurt you in any significant way.

Are you saying cigar tobacco tastes like pipe tobacco smells?

Not worth it. If you like the smell, buy some Pipe tobacco and use it as potpourri. Don't smoke it for the smell or taste though.

tobacco can cause medical problems somewhere in the body regardless of whether it is inhaled or not. although natural tobacco without additives is likey a fair amount less harmful than mass market tobacco. the fda makes natural tobacco brands put a warning label that says that a lack of additives does not make it less harmful. really? i thought it was the additives that are often so bad? likely influenced by big tobacco companies that want to scare people away from switching to more natural tobacco. natural tobacco still can cause medical problems but somehow adding additives increases medical harm yet somehow does not make the pre additive stuff any less harmful than after additives are added? talk about hypocritical bullshit bureaucracy

not saying natural tobacco does not cause any medical problems

eventually you might get the same problems as mass market commercial tobacco but it might take longer. you could still get those problems although

Haven't seen that in years. My guess is they quit making it, but I don't know for sure.

I use to smoke a pretty damn good cigar from the now defunct Hav-A-Tampa. It was the berry flavored cigar. Fuck that was good! Wish they were still in business.

I did cloves for some years without becoming addicted. I'd like to see them come back to the US market though. :( I've never tried pipes or cigars. Don't want to.

Clove cigarettes were expensive. I considered them a luxury, an indulgence. I limited myself to 1, sometimes 2 per day. When I ran out I didn't bother to buy more for a couple days.

So don't keep a steady supply on hand. Stash them in your trunk or somewhere where you won't see them all the time and be tempted. Don't inhale deeply when you do smoke that 1/day.

Of course it's playing with fire. If you're serious about avoiding addiction you won't even buy tobacco in the first place.

Clove cigs are a myth. They are worse than smoking reg tobacco. Plus, no clove cig is pure clove, that would probably kill you.

There is still a brand of clove cigarettes that survived the Obama ban on flavored cigarettes. They are pretty expensive and don't have nearly the same amount of flavoring as before, but they're all you can get. The brand is called Djarum and they are sold as "little cigars", because the regulations (and taxes) on those are lesser than standard cigarettes.

I'm not an expert on tobacco but isnt snuff meant to be inhaled? As inhaling finely powdered tobacco? And snus is similar to dipping tobacco

Yes, which sounds incredibly unsatisfying. If I am snorting anything, it better give me an instant high while surround by women of the night.

I'm sure the moist nasal mucosa provides a route for the body to take up nicotine. In any event, I fail to see how snorting finely ground tobacco can be healthy for anyone.

OP just get some scented candles or something that smells of pipe tobacco, take it from a smoker, it's a bad fucking idea to get started.

There's a big gap between healthy and harmful. Snuff is fairly neutral. Long term use can change the geometry of your nasal passages, but it isn't especially harmful.

A couple of cigars a month will not harm you and are a great way to relax.

It's one of the few tobaccos where it's easy to just smoke one a week or so, and not feel a "need" to smoke more.

Go by a well-rated cigar shop when they're not busy.. Lunch, or weekday afternoon. Most cigar shopkeeps are extremely friendly and welcome new smokers. Buy a cheap cutter, cheap lighter, and a couple of inexpensive mild cigars.

As a newbie, breath in before puffing on the cigar. It help keeps smoke out of your lungs. Small puffs are fine.
