I am definitely loving the new Dropbox app for Android. It automatically uploads any pictures you take to Dropbox and then they give you free space (for now anyway) for anything you upload.

So what's great about it is for years my wife has complained that she never sees the photos that I take with my phone but now that I have my Dropbox account shared on my PC and my wife's laptop, I can take them and then within an hour, they magically show up on her computer and she gets a little notification in the corner when they show up.

My daughter was in a play tonight and my wife had to work and couldn't make it but I took some photos of my daughter and recorded part of the play on my phone and then my wife got the photos before the play had even ended. Very cool. And then that the app is free and Dropbox is giving away space for free when you use it... it's a great deal.

They say it's beta, but it's been perfectly stable for me.

You know that Picasa/Google+ Photo does pretty much the same thing, right? :)

The slight difference is that the picture won't be locally synced to your wife's computer, but instead uploaded to Picasa. However you can setup so every picture you take will be shared with her and it will pop up as a notification on her G+ as soon as it's uploaded.

Of course this only works when your family is into the Google+ thing.

Btw, I love dropbox too. I have been depending on it for at least two years now.

i prefer the google+ approach since I mainly use picasa to share with family/friends so it is easy to grab shots from the mobile upload album whenever i need to

i love the fact that i helped beta test it and now i have 5GB for free

Yeah, ditto. :)
First the beta has been really useful, and second, I have lots of dropbox space for free now.

As far as Google+ and Picasa, I actually didn't know about that so thanks for mentioning it. How do I enable automatic uploading of photos to Picasa? I have a Picasa account. For now, I'm fine enough with Dropbox, but it would be good to know how to enable Picasa for the future and I'm combing through the menus on my SGS2 running 2.3.6 (GB) and I don't see how to do it.

If you run Google+, there's an automatic upload option in the settings in the app. That's how I do it. It's also how I pulled photos off my iPad before selling it because I fucking hate iTunes.

Yes, run Google+, and then there's a checkbox for 'Turn on Instant Upload'. It will then upload every pictures you snap on your phone to Picasa (by default it's a private album).

Then whenever you felt like sharing these photos, you just need to run Google+, start a new post (top right), pick your circle (who you want to share these pictures with), click on gallery (bottom right), mark the pictures you are sharing, click share, enter some accompanying text if you want, and hit the arrow (top right) to post!

Sounds complicated but it's actually really simple :)

isn't the downside that people you share with have to have a gmail address?

More specifically, they have to have a Google+ account (G+ account is not forced on you, regardless of what you read over at ATOT :D) for you to be able to share the pictures.

I personally don't see it as a 'downside' as everyone I care about sharing stuff with (pictures/post/etc) already have some kind of Google account (either GMail or Google App from their workplace or even personal/non-profit Google App) so this works perfectly. To me this is much easier than doing the Facebook thing. On Facebook I can never be really sure who can see what I shared (Yes, I knew about the group thing that they revamped after they saw what Google did with G+, but at the time I was already comfortable with G+).

I might use the Dropbox photo upload since I already use Dropbox. I refuse to signup and use Google+ so I will just continue to manually upload to Picasa. There's no way I'm signing up for Facebook, Twitter, or Google+.

Yup, it's definitely a buyer's market for these type of things nowadays. There are likely all different kinds of of options to do similar things so you can choose which one is best for your needs!

I uploaded some 200+ personal pics of family members and just realized that DropBox doesn't let one delete their event history.
I now have 3 pages worth of these "events" eventhough they have already been deleted.
My number of events is also cluttered and cannot be deleted to remove the less important events. I don't need an event history reminding me that I deleted something that I wanted to delete.

DropBox fail.
This reminds me of why I stopped using Facebook a long time ago.

the pictures show up in picasa as well, from which you can share to anyone via an email.
