I had an oldish computer at work (2007-era dell with an Athlon x2 and 2GB ram, one 22") that also happened to have older software (since there's always work to be done instead of fiddling with software updates).

Well, today I got a new(ish) 2.4GHz quad core with 4gb ram, two 22" and ubuntu 10.10. Everything just flies on this one compared to the old one :D

Not only that, but I realized I had been using Chrome 5 and now I'm up to Chrome 8. This actually makes work more enjoyable than before.

Yeah, I miss it :(

I can't wait to get a new desktop. It's been 6 years now.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Just got a new toshiba laptop, bloated for free.:(

Run the free version of pcdecrapifier. Google it. Makes removing all the preloaded bloatware fast and simple. Run it on all my new laptops. Always build my desktops myself so those are always clean installs.

Thanks.

Used to XP and it's fairly easy to get rid of the crap. The toshiba is win 7 with "toshiba" titled software. Toshiba face recognition software for example. Pretty sure I don't need that.

It's amazing how much a cheap incremental upgrade can do for you if you upgrade sparingly (ie, not like those guys in the vid card forum). however, I, too, look forward to a new PC with all the bells and whistles. maybe after grad school ;)
