Why not take control and WAVE the person through instead of sitting there looking just as clueless as she was?

I was taught in drivers ed to NEVER wave another driver or pedestrian, as you could be liable (or partially liable) if that person was involved in an accident.

If they get in a car accident, just drive away and deny everything.

Plus, you learn tons of bullsh|t in drivers ed that is just plain retarded and useless. After you get out of drivers ed you learn how you actually drive.

First one there goes first, right?

I arrive at a stop sign. I am going straight. There is a woman opposite of me who is left turning who arrived significantly before me. This is a two way stop.

She doesn't understand the concept that since she's there before me, she has right of way. So she sits there.

This is the part I love. I will NOT go until she takes her turn. I sat there two minutes and finally she figured out I'm not going until she does...and panics! Pulls into the intersection, forcing a car going the other way to slam on his brakes. So she cancels her left turn and blows through the intersection straight through.

I proceed as it is now my right of way.
That's okay, some stupid guy did the same in front of me this morning. 3 way stop. Car is coming up to stop sign in other lane. Dumb@$$ in front of me sits there. Woman gets up to stop sign. He sits. I honk. He goes. I pull up to stop sign. Woman in Jeep goes. I go. All is well

People are stupid, esp women drivers (And before anyone flames, we all know most women can't drive worth a sh!t. even my gf agrees, her being one of the few women who can drive well)

I don't know how it works there but in Virginia no one has the right of way rather the law states who is required to yield right of way.

From the DMV site:

The law does not give the right-of-way to anyone. It only states which driver must yield to another.

In this case even though she was not required to yield the right of way she did so for whatever reason. Why you chose to make such a big issue out of it would be my question?

They're hand signals...That's like, you being blamed because someone was looking at your blinkers.

How about the opposite.

BMW M3. Newly bought. 1 week old. Runs straight into a stop sign and knocks it all the way down fvcking up the whole car in the process. Stupid rich high school students.

There's usually three rules. Yield to the person on your right, yield to the person who got to the intersection first, yield to the person who is going straight. Most times FIFO takes the cake, but a lot of times I yield to the person who's just going straight.

A stop sign can't fvck up a whole car. Unless you had a loose stop sign, and you were beating the car with it.

BTW, I hate multi-directional stop signs. They present the perfect opportunity for people to run into me.

People who take the imitative and start to go when they shouldn't and then if there is an accident and admit to what they did are in for a rude awakening when they get a ticket.

Ok I didn't mean it was totalled and I don't know about you but someone denting my M3 would be cause for concern and is enough to warrant a beating. Now raise that up a notch and have the M3 crashing into a stop sign. That's not too pretty.

Actually OP, you (as the straight-through driver) had the right-of-way.

(In most states)

FWIW

Scott

I'm Canadian. This is how stop signs work here.

From what I am reading in the Alberta Drivers Manual they are not different. Assuming the situation was as you described it the woman making the left turn did have the right of way since she could have started her turn after coming to a complete stop before you came to a complete stop. That said she is under no obligation to do so and even the Alberta Driving Manual says she is allowed to exercise caution and not assert her right of way if she so desires.

And I exercised caution and did not go when I had no right of way and she signalled no intention to surrender right of way to me 🙂

I love the people that are approaching the sign at about the same time but a little behind. I come to a full stop and they just blow through. Gotta love it.
My wife won't stop unless I start saying "cop, cop, cop". It's unfortunate I have to do that to get her to obey traffic laws, but such is life.

The yield to the person on the right only applies to the situation when you all reached the stop sign together.

In 20+ years of waving people to go first, I have NEVER had that problem.

Sounds like an old wive's tale to me.

LOL....that sounded really funny 'in 20+ years of waving" rofl...

That concept is strange to me also. When arriving at a stop sign, I yield to everyone that don't have a stop sign, and to everyone that has a stop sign but is to my right or in front. Those who are in front of me and want to turn left, if they have a stop they must wait
