Ok, this PC is starting to piss me off. I play Halo. The game is very jumpy. It's as if this stupid computer can't handle the game. I know I met the system requirements. My specs are:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ at 2.1GHz
BFG Nvidia 6600GT 128mb AGP 8x
1gb of Corsair RAM. I replaced my old OCZ's with this corsair because of better timings.
74gb Raptor HD.

Why does Halo run like sh!t if I met every requirement?

Hmm, it ran just great on my Ti4200 and my 9700 Pro with XP 2700+ and 512MB of RAM... maybe a config error? What res? AA? AF?

what is it? virus? spyware? rouge process?
just end process and go to regedit to stop it from loading on bootup.

I know this might be overkill, but a reformat, fresh install usually solves all kinds of issues. But use this as a last resort.

Check for spyware, adware, viruses, etc..

system idle is supposed to do that. just means how much cpu you got left. mine usually takes around 98-99% of my cpu which just means 98-99% of my cpu is free.

that's weird. shouldnt be considered a system process. It's a part of the zone alarm firewall.
vsmon - vsmon.exe - Process Information

Process File: vsmon or vsmon.exe
Process Name: True Vector Internet Monitor

Description:
vsmon.exe is a processs associated with the ZoneAlarm personal firewall. It is used to monitor Internet traffic and generate alerts depending on the security rules configured by the user.
Author: Zone Labs Inc.
Part Of: ZoneAlarm

System Process: No
Background Process: Yes
Uses Network: No
Hardware Related: No
Common Errors: N/A

if yuo dont have zonealarm, it's probably malware.

it should be in C:\windows\system\vsmon.exe if it's not there then it's a virus.

At this time There's quite a few viruses running around using this filename!

try a virus scan. Kaperskey anti virus is the best of the best. see if you can get the trial version.

vsmon.exe is installed when you install ZoneAlarm

It should NOT be using 80% cpu

Try re-installing zonealarm (might want to try turning it off during HALO (disconnect from the internet when you do)

Yes I do own Zonealarm. Reason why I leave it on while I play the game is because of those stupid hacking children that also play the game. They seemed to have messed with my computer before, and I like how Zonealarm will give me the IP of who tries to access my computer, so I can get revenge on those stupid kids. Plus, I prefer Zonealarm over any other Antivirus or Firewall.

I like ZA too. I don't have any issue like you describe (the excessive CPU usage which would certainly bog down your game)

I play on-line quite a bit with ZA set to High for Internet (medium if I'm serving)

I really think your install is borked. I suggest uninstalling it and then re-installing. (Are you sure you are updated on it?)

ZA did that to me once. Just reinstall ZA and you should be all set.
Btw, I'd definately give Kaspersky a try. Zone Alarm AV is mediocre at best. I use ZAP (Zone Alarm Pro) as my firewall and Kaspersky as my Antivirus. Give Kaspersky a try. Jeez. You'll be surprised at how many trojans you have ;). This thing updates every like 6 hours.

Guys, I just figured out the problem. The reason why zonealarm was taking up so much processor is that a scan was in progress. A little baloon on the system tray popped up above the ZA program and said the scan was complete. It also just did an antivirus update. Then, the processor usage dropped down to 2-5%

I feel dumb.
