Where did you find 123 batteries for so cheap?

That's $1.25 apiece, about right for CR123.

Even direct from Surefire they're only $1.50 apiece.

I laugh when I see them in the store at $5-6 apiece.

I laugh even harder when people are still buying them!

I've been using Li Ion 123's for nearly a year and they have paid for themselves 100's of times over! Even at the $1 per cell price I was purchasing them (Sanyo) at!

I have a lot of uses for the 123 cells (surefire/arc/longbow/homemade/etc.) and was buying several hundred per year. I bet these could be used for slugs in a 20 ga!

Cheers!

I guess for most people that have maybe one device that uses them paying $6 once a year isn't bad.

But when my G2 burns through two in 20 minutes that's about $36 an hour.

If people only use one per year they aren't using their flashlights like they *should*.

This scenario would probably be best handled with cheap eveready dollar store light!

My L4 uses a Pila 168 4.2V cell to replace a pair of 123's. Since it's regulated, it draws more current and the light output is the same on ~4V instead of 6V with the pair of 123's. Run time is about the same - 60 minutes continuous. It's a 75 lumen light and produces a wall of 6300K white light from a single 5W Luxeon.

My ARC4+ lasts considerably longer especially at the lower levels. With EDC frequent use, I'm charging the 123's sometimes twice a week! At the highest level (35 lumens) it will last about 40 minutes. At the lowest level (unknown but bright enough to use to walk through the house - about as bright as a keychain light) it will run perhaps 10 days to two weeks on a charge. Gotta love that ARC4.

Cheers!

Correct me if I'm wrong, Sir Runs-a-lot, but in running, does one not pump their arms? It would be pretty stupid holding a normal flashlight while running at night. Either that, or you just run like a tool with his arms at his sides.

Very funny. It's not like I go running in pitch blackness! Certain parts of the park are dareker than others, and holding a little flashlight is not that big of a deal when running. Anyway, the point is that because you don't need a badass flashlight it doesn't mean the rest of us don't. Besides, don't normal people "just get a Dell" while most of us have DIY rigs? And you're surprised by the flashlight lust? 😀

I like that title, "Sir Runs-a-lot", even though I only go twice a week or so. That reminds me, gotta get to the bathroom stat! 😉

For someone that only runs twice a week and only uses the flashlight occassionally when running why do you need a really good flashlight? Wouldn't a cheaper mini maglite be good enough?

This will probably the last time I see "flashlight" and "bad-ass" in the same sentence. But yes, that is a bad-ass flashlight.

I've got this flashlight, the X1 and the X5 too. I really like Inova flashlights! 🙂

I'm looking forward to their new model that is like 3 times as bright as the X0! 😀

Most people don't understand how much cooler and more useful a really good flashlight/fleshlight is... I used to think a Maglight was top of the line too! Cool stuff is cool stuff. 🙂

I bought an X5 floodlight. And promptly returned it.

I do quite a bit of wiring up in ceilings and picked it up to help see up in the dark in there. It was useless. I'll stick to the 3 cell Maglight I have. Sure it weighs about 3 times as much as the Inova does...but you can also see about 10x as far with it.

LED lights such as the X5 are not good for throw. The keyword is floodlight. 🙂

OTOH, an L6 will throw quite nicely. It uses the same emitter as the L4 (which is a floodlight) and puts out 65+ lumens. (very conservatively rated). The larger reflector allows the light to be focused tighter and throws much further. Your 3 cell Mag puts out 30 lumens on fresh batts and new bulb and the number goes down quickly from there.

FYI: on the subject of finer flashlights, $50 is a bargain or usually will buy you something of lower quality. The Innova products fall into this category. Surefire is the McIntosh of flashlights. Peakbeam would be Krell. 🙂

Check out the MegaRay

hm.. Nobody wants to tell me where they get the cr123s for cheap?

edit: dohh.. i'm stupid... 🙁 nevermind.. I should read more carefully

Try a surefire.

🙂

Nitrolon G2 + P61 lamp assy

Same size as your XO, 120 lumens, & no rings at all in the beam.

I was reading through the thread, waiting for someone to say "Hahaha, what a cute little light. When you want to talk about a real flashlight, let me know".

You just managed to beat me to it, I guess. Surefire fecking pwns 😀. Especially my wallet 🙁.

You ever hear that saying about "Birds of a feather..."?

I was thinking of parodying this thread, but then I decided to make out with Pamela Handerson instead

Did anyone mention http://www.batterystation.com ?

And I don't think Inova lights are low quality at all. They're far from top of the line, but they're just about right for the price, and build quality tends to be very, very good. vi_edit, the X5 isn't good for what you need (it's all flood), but there are a host of much smaller, lighter LED (and incandescent) lights that will blow the Mag away.

I'm just a fan of LEDs because LEDs are cool.
