I have the dell DJ. I love it as I bring it with me literally everywhere. If I'm shopping, doing laundry, going to work and my buddies house I have it with me.

I love it but...

1) I hate it when people have to stare at it. I mean this is the year 2005 and there are people that still ask me what I have holding in my palm. I tell them nicely what it is.

2) I need to be more careful with my MP3 player. I walked into a store with it a few months ago and it was about 11:30pm. I was on my way to work and I had to get something to eat. We'll anyway, I noticed there were 2 young guys checking out the MP3 player that I was holding. I thought I was going to be robbed!! Anyway, they didn't do anything but they sure were acting suspicious!

Does anyone here have anything similiar to share? Do you get startes when you bring your MP3 player with you? Has anyone stolen it from you as well?

btw, I dropped my Dell DJ for the first time in 2 years and it survived. Thank got for my case! It saved my baby.

aww...

1) Flaunt it like you own an iPod, and tell them it's a new secret iPod model.

2) Hide your stuff in your pocket and you wouldn't get jacked.

My MP3 player is very small (SanDisk 1GB), which I put in my pocket, and I use KOSS KSC75 clip-ons, people just ignore me. I feel so left out.

I wear my Shuffle around my neck on the Subway and I always feel like it's going to be robbed... I mean, this is NYC...

But, you gotta love people staring :)

No wonder people stare. Having it stapled to your face is probably the wrong place for it:Q:p

Get a good non descript case for it and if needed a extentsion cord for the headset. You are using quality earphones/canal phones aren't you?

I also have a Dell DJ. But I don't show it off to the world.

It is kinda like your penis though. Safer when you keep it hidden, dangerous when you pull it out.

I want to buy a counter and count the number of people on my campus with an iPod....surely I will cry from the results. Cheers on owning a different mp3 player, but stop being so paranoid!!!

Try taking off the headphones and interacting with humans. I don't understand how people can walk around all day with these things. I like music just as much as the next guy, but constantly being oblivious to the outside world so you can listen to the latest from that douchebag Rob Thomas seems wrong to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the crowd that's out around 11:30 PM at night in my neighborhood isn't the crowd I really feel like talking to, dunno if that's how it is where you live.

Actually if I were to talk to random people it would probably be around that time, but I get your point. I still don't see why someone would cut off all human contact to listen to music for a few minutes.

If you're exercising or something it makes sense, but I don't understand wearing headphones when you're out doing normal errands.

Agreed. But some folks have a need for attention, and flashing some cool, (in their mind, at least), toy is one way of getting it.

What the...

I assume 50% of the people who ask you are female so it's a pretty neat conversation-starter...

Here is what you will do from now on:
1) Listen to music
2) Get asked, "What's that?"
3) Remove headphones
4) Say "It's a Dell DJ...<specs>...so, you from out of town?"

They are good for public transport or times when you don't want to be bugged by panhandlers or strangers.
