nope..not even close !! But who cares ... it is TOTALLY playable. Some games (NeedForSpeed:Underground and Hitman) run as good. But, so far BF Vietnam is only at about 50% - 60%.

But it was enough for me to trash the last windows installation I ever plan to have and get that last PC on Debian.

I did the winex thing last year in a hope to toss windows. It's fine as long as you don't mind waiting a couple years to have your game completely supported, oh wait, I forgot the lower frame rates, the lack of videocard support, the fact linux doesn't even use all the features on your vid card, the difficult install of most games and the fact that you have to pay monthly to get the latest winex version so you can play old games.


It was kind of cool the first time I installed counter-strike (after about 30min. of trying to get it installed) until I realized I got about 20FPS cause the Linux drivers for my Ti4200 were junk. Don't get me wrong, I love Linux but they need some SERIOUS work before it's a replacement OS for gamers.Till then MAC supports more/newer games than Linux. Not to mention you don't have to pay monthly.

That is soo cool. Even with 50-60% performance vs Windows it will be excellent. Many people have kick-a$$ gaming rigs anyway and a drop from 100fps to 50fps won't make a huge difference anyway.

I couldn't find a price for the product on teh product page. Is it free?!!

If you're paying monthly for WinEX you're getting ripped off. You can find it for free elsewhere.

WinEX has come pretty far from where it started. It won't be long before you get comparable performance or better running games through it.

you are only gonna fool the people who dont know anything about the hassles of getting wine running.

 

I really don't understand the point of WINE. You jump through hoops to get Windows apps running when you can just dual boot to get the app running 100%. That's just me though.

Opinion - not fact. Infact, complete untruth. Linux supports OpenGL at whatever driver-level the hardware vendor supports it. Hence, if it's a NVIDIA driver for example, Linux can do EVERYTHING that a Windows machine can with the same card.

The only difference is specific Direct3D exposed functions, which may not have a driver entry point or OpenGL-Extension (yet).

If you're trying to go 100% legit you may not be able to get a copy of Windows to dual boot with. It's pretty expensive if you don't purchase it with a pre-made computer.

Of course in this case you probably also have all your game CD's curtesy of suprnova anyway, so what's the difference?

I put the cd in, install the game via the auto-run and then I am playing in like 10 minutes. Plus my FPS is like totally fast.

Wine is very difficult to get running.

Winex (cedega now IIRC) is very very simple.

Since this thread is about winex, you're bringing up something off topic.

Getting winex going is as simple as

emerge winex3 or
rpm -Uvh winex3

Put cd in.

winex3 /mnt/cdrom/Setup.exe

<next>
<yes>
<next>
<next>
<finish>

winex3 /home/user/Transgaming Drive/c/Program Files/Game/game.exe

But you don't even have to do that as winex usually automatically puts a desktop shortcut to the game you want to play right on your desktop.

when winex says 50-60% the performance of windows they don't mean the framerate. They mean literally 50-60% in most cases as I found out with CS. I used winex when CS was at 80% and it was just that, about 20% of the maps didn't work, sometimes I couldn't plant the bomb or even use certain weapons. Now this may have changed but a couple years ago that's what I experienced

then how come it didn't support dual monitors, or s-video out? and like you said it's at "whatever driver-level the hardware vendor supports it". Which in my case (a few years ago mind you so it could have changed) the driver I DLd from NVIDIA said it didn't support some card functionality.
