I Love Immigrants

So there.
I see a person from another country working at some job to make a better life for himself, I think, "Good for him, that is great."

Hell, my family came over from europe at some point to carve out better lives for themselves, So, the way I see it, who am I to sit there and complain about immigrants? After all, the first illegal immigrants were white people. But, as usual, the haters have no comprehension of that...
"POOR ME, POOR ME!" Cries the middle class.

They get angry because some guy who grew up in a shack with a dirt floor in some mexican barrio comes to the US illegally.

I ask, what would YOU do? Keep living in that dirty hut hoping you don't die of some curable disease until you can move to the US legally? Or say, "screw it, at least being poor in the US isn't as bad as being poor here," And take off?

Then more cries about "handouts" they get... yeah, more BS. Frankly with all the advantages I have just being BORN here, I really don't care if some of my tax dollars go to help an immigrant get an education, after all it's all better for the nation in the end.

There, I vented.

Some point of view from real protesters

I was at a great rally today in Jersey City right behind the statue of liberty, there were lots of people, lots of chants of USA, USA, and a LOT we not immigrants, a lot were americans standing behind our fellow workers, so great to see us all come together of all colors, even the governor sent a speech and he is fully behind the newest americans, hurray!
For all the angry ones who think they are "losing out" and "getting something taken" step off and give people the same chance you had.

Anyhow, who are you to call someone immigrant, pilgrim 😉

Sorry Dave, but it is the anti-immigration crowd that hates everything about what makes america so great, and history proves you wrong.

I don't know what ass end of the internets you get this from but it is sad, there is nothing liberal or conservative about the immigration issue, its about all of us, we were all in the same "boat" you could say at some point with the same types of people complaining about the same things.

I marched to liberty park and looked on thousands of smiling faces and you know what? I saw freedom and liberty and america, even though Lady Liberty had ironiclly her back turned toward us the hard working masses reject as many americans do the old suspicions and intolerance, and it was great to be one of them today with all the naysayers and america haters in here.

Of course that would anger a lot of people, especially legal immigrants and naturalized citizens. Legal immigration should be increased, and illegal eliminated. That would probably lower the amount of people from Mexican barrios coming in though and give better opportunities for others (Nepalese villages I guess).

If they are here to work, let them in. We have plenty to go around, no need to be cultural elitists and not share the oppurtunity and in the end make america stronger, latin americas loss = our gain.

Immigrant backlash worldwide. Not just here, Europe as well. The foundation of the PC generation is beginning to crumble finally.

I agree with some of your points, not all of them.

We can't let in 5 billion people. It needs to be orderly, and not saturate the country. People are coming here for more than just working. They want to work, live, raise children, receive education, etc.

I feel that our population is a great strength, but so is our diversity. Legal immigration needs to increase, and illegal needs to be eliminated in order to achieve this.

The US seems to deal more with illegal immigration backlash. Europe is minority backlash, immigrant or not.

I think the way the europeans came here worked fine, screen them for criminal history and dangerous diseases and let them in.

The WORLD is not going to be interested in coming here, (why are there not MILLIONS of Canadians streaming in) the most motivated and determined are the ones that get off their ass and LEAVE their mess to better themselves, the lazy are the ones that stay in their misery, and this is true about a lot of things in life.

If you have the cajones to pick up your whole life and history to pioneer a new life here in america then more power to them too bad so sad for their home countries.

We're in the 21st century now, not the early 20th century and earlier. We are close to 300 million people. I'd like to see us grow greatly, but not to something insane like 1 billion in 5 years.

I think that the way the Indians, Chinese, Mexicans, Europeans, Nigerian, etc. came legally works fine. Just increase the rate, but keep the diversity. Like the lotto program. Control who comes in, have a nice mix of professions, have paperwork, etc. I'm only talking about immigration, not refugees.

I think it would be pretty hard for some Nepalese subsistence farmer to "get off their ass and LEAVE their mess." Unless you're going to buy him a plane ticket.

Sorry, I am not anti-immigration, I am anti-ILLEGAL immigration.

What is it about the word ILLEGAL that Republicans do not understand??? 😕

Becasue calling a fellow human illegal for where he happened to be born while being a immigrant yourself is plain hypocricy, think about it long and hard Dave. Think about that as a american and throughout history of our country,

And if you are calling me a republican you are a fool, I have never voted for a con and very rarely voted for a dem. (I can think of 3 off the top of my head and only one of them was for president becasue bush is so bad.)

Steeplerot is right. America should have no border. Everyone in America is immigrant, that is why anyone in the world have the right to come here any time they want. Illegal, legal, all the same anyway.

Once the amnesty law pass and these undocumented workers have citizenship, they'll unionized and get better paid. These new batch of workers would no longer be cheap. We'll need new supply of cheap workers to come in so Business owners can keep having a fresh supply of low paid workers to take advantage of. America should not build any walls at border!

Why discriminate against non-Mexican? Just because Mexico is next door doesn't mean only Mexicans should be allow in. America should allow poor people from ALL over the world, not just Mexico (we don't want to be look upon as giving Mexico or South America preferred treatment do we?) Billions of poor people in China and India live as bad as a lot of poor Mexican, would love to come and work too. America must take care of poor all over the world by letting anyone in, there is no other way around!!@!@!

Ever thought about the fact that cheap labor is the problem, not people trying to make a living?

Steeplerot, you are a liar. You are lying when you say it's an immigration issue! It's about illegal immigration. I want all 12 million of then in a concentration camp, they have to be punished.

Sorry Dave, but it is the anti-immigration crowd that hates everything about what makes america so great, and history proves you wrong.

Another lie! We love America, and everything it stands for. It's not anti immigration, it's anti illegals!! Do you ever tell the truth?

That's because Europe is racist, the USA isn't!

I love immigrants too. LEGAL immigrants who follow the laws and come to America or whatever country of their choosing.

It's a bit late to opine about the illegal manner in which America was "discovered". I mean, we can hardly all go back to where we came from at this point. For many of us that would mean going back to several places which would probably be physically impossible.

America and the world are what they are today. Let's deal with that. If we declare an amnesty for the 12 million people who have somehow managed to "sneak" into America -- and there is no way they snuck in, they were allowed in by the current administration for only two purposes, to undermine wages and probably vote for the party that allowed them to sneak in in these numbers in the first place -- anyway, if we allow an amnesty now we'll be telling every other illegal invader it's OK to sneak into America and, if you don't believe the flood gates have opened already, believe me, the flood gates will surely open then.

America is having one hell of a time caring for its own under the current oligarchy. Imagine what life will become for the less fortunate in our society once they're competing with the less fortunate from the rest of the Americas. It's a recipe for disaster.

One more thing, isn't anyone concerned that in 2006, almost FIVE YEARS AFTER 9/11, that this number of people have managed to get into our nation through border that are still so porous as to be virtually non-existant???

I know I am. What the hell are bush and his "homeland security" department doing? This is just ridiculous and totally unacceptable. If 12 million people can "sneak" into America through our porous borders then certainly a few bad people who want to do us grevious harm certainly can. SEAL THE BORDERS, then decide how to deal with the illegal immigrant invader problem.

I don't mind immigration. My father was an immigrant. My great-grand parents were immigrants (I still have the paperwork from when they came over), but there's one important thing: they came through legally.

Does the current system need to be fixed a bit? Yeah. The lottery system is kind of a mess at the moment, but it still a lot better than doing it illegally.

"The way [most of] the europeans came here (along with some others)," at least initially, was through official and/or unofficial systems of indentured servitude that left them as wage-slaves who were forced to take jobs that had them working in the most deplorable conditions for little to no money and and even less in the way of individual rights. It was no more nor less "fine" that what's happening now... in face, it's the same crap with another name. And while it may offer perceived benefits to some, it didn't/doesn't occur out of some overwhelming sense of philanthropy. It has and will likely continue to be used as a means of increasing the unskilled labor force and forcing down wage demands.

ANd does no one here want to approach the health care issues? If half this countries own people are having problems affording health care and are taxing hospital emergency rooms, what will 12 mill more people do to the hospitals then? You know none of the illegals have health care.
