I love elecrocuting myself...

I was wiring a lamp today and there were no markings on the wire for +/- so I used my MM to check.

I started to wire everything up and came to the shocking realization that I forgot to unplug the lamp...
 
I got 300 V across my middle finger when trying to hook up a generator cable once. I jumped. My finger hurt like hell, was afraid I had nerve damage. It was fine after a couple days though.
 
I've gotten a nice shock with installing a ceiling fan in the past, I quickly realized I had flipped the wrong breaker 😛
 
I got a nice shock trying to plug in a fan into a very hard to get to outlet. Couldn't feel my hand for 20 minutes... 😛

Is not the volts, its the amperage that matters 😉
 
You never forget the first time your finger slips and bridges the terminals on a fully charged flash capacitor. All other shocks pale in comparison.

Ding Ding. Ten bajillion amps won't do shit if the voltage can't overcome the resistance of the body. 300V is plenty though. Point is, it's not JUST them amps that kill. I proved that to a buddy once by licking my palms and grabbing the terminals of an 800 amp car battery. Hey look...I'm still alive.

Yup, did that once while attempting to take apart one of those disposable cameras. Definately the worst I've experienced.
 
Worst shock I've had is DC for a fuser on a Lexmark 4049. Screwdriver had burn marks, was hot, and I didn't stop shaking for the rest of the day. Man that was a rush!

Try that with an Ascor 4KV. 4000volt trigger circuit, 800-27000 joules, depending on the configuration.

Not really, you can easily say the reverse. A = V/r

True, but the power supply will only be capable of outputting some max number of amps, which may or may not be high enough to harm a person.

For example, most DC power supplies used in labs are only capable of outputting 1.5A max on their DC outputs.
 
About 2 weeks ago I had the back off of my CRT TV to fix it. I went to move it and put my hand under the circuit board that hangs out the back. Zapped the shit out of myself.

I was searching around in a friend's basement looking for a lamp when I was younger and stuck my finger right in the socket. I felt it shake around in there for a second before I pulled it away, that wasn't pleasant.

ya, but 120v at 15A is a tickle... 300V at what amperage? ive taken 220V at 60A and lived, with just a racing heart. my boss took a 480V 600A blast (it explodes the air) and burned his hands up, gave himself a 2nd degree sunburn on his face and was out of work for months. i think it was 600A at the pump... its a 600A service at least, and the starter feeds directly. hell, im a programmer/ designer so it may be a little lower, but not by much.

You're correct. I even looked it up before I posted.

Saying I got shocked just doesn't convey the appropriate mental image in my mind (even if I'm wrong). To me getting "shocked" is when you get that zap from touching the office door handle. Electrocution seems much more meaningful when used to describe what I felt.

It actually seems weird (and almost wrong) to me that the word electrocution implys death.
