Lol. Good luck @ 2nd gen for $190

I sold two of them in the last 2 weeks for that price. I made over $100 profit on each since I bought them slightly broken and they both had an easy fix. The one I am selling now I bought for $5 and spent $50 fixing it and now it is in mint condition and works perfectly.

If you are a smart and patient seller, like me, you can get your price eventually. I am in no hurry to sell. If it does not sell after a couple days, I take the ad down and repost it for the weekend. If it still does not sell, I put it in my next garage sale ad and someone will buy it for my price then. This is not my first rodeo.

Same thing with buying - patience. After looking at ads for about a month, three weeks ago I bought a mint white iPhone 5S, 16GB for $100. Not iCloud locked, not passcode locked, not a bad IMEI and not a scam. Just a motivated and slightly ignorant seller meets patient and informed buyer.

Don't get why people don't say it correctly still.

CREEPSlist

who is this Craig guy? he sounds like a nice guy.

Apart from the Nigerians who wanted to buy my truck via paypal, most of my craigslist experiences have been positive.

Who said I don't have a bottom dollar? I know my bottom dollar, but I am sure not going to tell you what that is without you making an offer.

By their logic, rather than asking my bottom dollar, shouldn't the buyer simply tell me their top dollar?

MotionMan

My top dollar is your bottom dollar. Tell me yours and we'll negotiate down from there 🙂

seriously? grats, cuz that's way, way, way above market price.

exactly.

slag "wasting his time" if he doesn't start on the seller's bottom dollar simply informs all experienced sellers that they are wasting their time with this rube.

It's always worked for me in the past.. Lets cut to the chase. If you want to sell your item, you have a number in mind that you won't take less for. That's what I want to give you. Sure, I can lowball you, but if you want to sell it, you'll tell me what you need to get for it.

/shrug

Edit: I can freely walk away. We all know that for every 10 people interested in an item on craigslist, perhaps 1 or 2 will actually show up.

If my "bottom dollar" is below your "top dollar", then I have left money on the table by selling to you at my "bottom dollar". Also, if i do give my "bottom dollar", I run the risk of the buyer trying to negotiate even lower and, though I gave my bottom dollar, I still do not get the sale - talk about a waste of time.

Basically, I don't give out my "bottom dollar" because it does not benefit me in any way.

Now, if a seller is desperate, dumb or impatient, that might work on them.

You'll take the least possible anyway because any decent negotiator will lowball first hoping you really need to sell it quickly or flat out ask for the bottom dollar. If you don't want to give it, that's fine. I can walk, you can wait for someone else.

And, to bring this full circle, that is why I do not respond to requests for my "bottom dollar".

Do you ever sell items on CL?

MotionMan

All the time. I have a few items on there right now as a matter of fact.

I'd show a screenshot, but all i can get to from work is pics.bbzzdd.com and it appears to be down right now. (403 forbidden)

And you readily give out your real "bottom dollar" when asked?

MotionMan

Yes, of course. Sure, I ask them to make an offer and many "newer" negotiators will do that, but when it comes down to it, I know what I want to get out of an item and will give up the number if pressed. Then I explain why I've come to this figure, show what I've done to the item (if it needed repairs), demonstrate it for a few seconds, etc. And then we shake on it or they decide to keep looking.

"if pressed" does not sound like "readily". Why do you need to be pressed?

Also, this exchange sounds like an in person meeting. Do you give out your bottom dollar via e-mail, before the person has made an offer and before setting up a meeting?

Depends on how far the person is travelling and overall feeling I get from the person. For example, I'm travelling to Wichita this weekend, health permitting, and I want to check out a couple jetskis along the way. I know what the seller needs to get out of them because I asked. He understands why--because I'm making a 3 hour one way trip.
