Don't you love it when they play gentle classical music in the background during the violent scene in movies? I love the ironic mood it creates!

Well, could someone recognize this one for me? it is played during End of Evangelion when Asuka beats the crap out of Eva series.
And also in the movie SE7EN when Morgan Freeman is researching at the library.

bring on the ATOT effect!

well you get the point. few other I just thought of:

Face Off: when the child puts the headset on, the SWAT team comes into the house and the slaughtering begins. The scene is played in slow motion with classical music in the background that the kid is listening to.

Hannibal: The end scene. As the cruisers and helicopter rushes in, as Hannibal Lector cuts off his wrist.. Rather gentle soothing classical is played... very dramatic effect

lol.....exactly what I was thinking. Maybe he was thinking about the old in-out in-out to the tune of the seventh, followed by some moloko at the Korolkova with the droogs. :D

On a somewhat related note, I like in Good Morning Vietnam during one of the war scenes when they play Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World... there's no sound effects at all, just the song, but the imagery is violent as hell. It's quite powerful, imho.

Ever play Grand theft auto 3? steal the mob car(black bmw) and switch it to the classical station. now you can run people over and cause all kind of crazy stuff in classical background.

I cant believe no one said Apocalypse Now. That has to be the best scene ever when the Attack Helicopters are coming in blaring Wagner's Flight of the Valkyries. It is so awsome!

Slique7, I just had to register a name and jump on in....The song you're looking for is Bach's Air from his first orchestral suite. As soon as I saw your title I thought, "Gosh, that scene from the End of Eva's gotta be what he's talking about." The piece is strings, right? The slow piano piece from EoE is Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring..who would've thought? =)

"It scares the hell out of the slopes. My men love it!" Best war sequence ever filmed by far.

What about the end of Caddyshack? The whole golf course is blowing up to the tune of the 1812 Overture

Argh, you took both my choice. I was going to say Excaliber and Apocalypse Now. Both use classical music superbly.
