I was wondering the same thing. Sounds like a real dick move and a way to end up driving up the cost for everyone. WTF?

Could be because if they bundled it all together, one item could hold up all the items from being shipped? At least I hope that's what it is and that Naustica isn't an asshole.

Naustica is an idiot since Amazon gives you the option of grouping items or shipping as they become available.

Amazon has never done that in my experience. They will go ahead and ship what is available and hold the other item if it's not. They split the order into two order numbers. I had an order do that yesterday. I ordered three things, one has a 1 day delay in shipping and the other two went ahead and ship. They gave them separate order numbers and split it up automatically.

Oh I know, I've literally ordered hundreds of things from them. I've also had 3 separate orders shipped in the same package as well. Those bastards are just too awesome when it comes to sending stuff out :D

I ordered something around 20 Blu-rays during the Black Friday sale and they shipped in about 6 different parts, even though I picked the free shipping. :D Was pretty sweet.

Because I don't really like Amazon. Plus I was helping out UPS and FedEx.

You realize that by shopping at Amazon you're giving them more money than you are wasting by 'splitting' your orders right?

You are an asshole. :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Lol, what? So don't use Amazon if you don't like them. What an idiotic thing to say and do. :D

Business is business. If they offer me a good deal, I'm using them. I do business with people or companies I don't like occasionally. I don't like them. I don't hate them.

Yeah, asshole, but you're f'ing it up for everyone else by screwing over the business intentionally for the awesome service they provide. You're being a douche for the sake of being a douche. Going out of your way to harm the company, and in turn it's customers, it's a world-class asshole move.

It's not "business is business" by trying to intentionally drive up the cost and screw over the company. It's childish and pathetic.

Everyone seems to love Prime but then they say how it causes them to spend money they otherwise wouldn't have.

I have $64 in Amazon credit and can't figure out what to buy.

I'll take your credit :D

I certainly buy more at amazon now that I have prime, but it's mostly out of convenience. Stuff that I used to get at newegg and other online retailers, I get at amazon (for the most part). I pretty much exclusively buy books, movies, and games on amazon as well since I don't have to go to a store and get these things on release. The items simply sit on my doorstep when I get home.

I've even bought groceries from time to time there. Not because they're particularly cheap (although sometimes they are) in that area, but Amazon offers a lot of items I would NEVER see in my local stores.

I absolutely don't mind at all paying $79 a year. I get a lot of value out of that price. I see more people wasting their money on sams club and costco memberships and get very little benefit for that.

Hmm. Company offers me free shipping so they can get more of my business. I use the free shipping to buy more products than I would normally buy. That makes me an asshole? Everybody benefited from my transactions. Amazon made money from my purchases. Not much as they could have initially but they'll more than make it up w/ inflated stock price when they report record sales and earnings because of people like me. So they can continue to offer free Prime to customers around Christmas time to boost their sales numbers. Amex made money from the transaction fees. UPS and FedEx got more business so they made more money. I got my items at a discount and saved on sales tax. All I see is win-win.

Preface : We're going to Costa Rica on Friday morning ... GF decided she wanted an underwater camera. I didn't want to get the canon one, as it looked like a kids toy, and the new Panasonic Lumix looked great, and i've been kind of wanting it since it came out anyhow. I also didn't want to get it B&M, because they were $350~ + tax

So I ordered up a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2, and a 16GB class 6 SDHC card last night, and they already showed up...barely 7 hours it took to get here!

Left facility : 12/29/2010 2:25 A.M.
Delivered : 12/29/2010 9:10 A.M.

I love Amazon Prime, and their overnight shipping for $3.99!

thankfully i never got Prime when they had that 1yr free w/college email addr.

there have been SO many different times $5 and $10 items on special that i would have bought if shipping was free.

Not to mention that you are intentionally screwing with the system by ordering everything separate which creates higher shipping cost to the vendor, additional paperwork and labor to the employees who pull the order. That also increases the number of boxes, packing material, printed receipts, labels, and tape that need to be used. Then there is the matter of the input and scanning of the packages into the system. The sorting, weighing, and amount of packages that UPS/FedEx has to load and carry/deliver to your doorstep. All possible multiple trips and fuel (driving up fuel usage and cost) to the final destination. Oh yeah, it takes more room in those 747 to carry your multiple packages…

You have it all thought out. You’re a real winner kid. Mommy and Daddy taught you well.

FYI: You're not adding to their bottom line by buying items in multiple sales. You're actually lowering the overall revenue by adding to their shipping and packing cost. You're hurting the company in the long run and the cost end up being passed on to the end user or eventually they would need to do away with Prime because of shipping cost. All because of "people like you". VERY well said. You abuse the system and fuck it up for everyone else. Class act.

It's mutual beneficial relationship like I said. Sure they're getting lower margin but they'll hit their sales target. They are like Dell of years back when they offered all kinds of crazy computer deals near end of the quarter to hit their numbers. Isn't it strange Amazon offered me free Prime for 3 years around Christmas time? I must be a good customer to them.

You're an idiot. They would hit their sales target AND have better margins if you ordered in ONE order, not multiples. You obviously don't know shit about business. All you are doing is lowering their margins, not driving them up by placing multiple orders. Wow, just wow.

Do it all in one order and quit wasting resources because you're a fucking douche and think you're cool.

I know they offer it if you are in school and have an edu email. What I'm not sure about is if they try and check to see if you are actually enrolled? Anyone know?

I've been nice and ignored your name calling. Please do not use personal attacks. You're obviously very upset about how I order from Amazon. Maybe you should write to Bezos and let him know people are abusing Prime by ordering each item separately. You should also let him know people are abusing it by piggybacking with non-family members and using fake .edu addresses. I know you're very concerned about margins at Amazon. Think of all the extra free shipping Amazon has to provide to these freeloaders. Think of the margin.

Meh...I don't really see anything wrong with what Naustica did with breaking up his order. I wouldn't have done it that way since Amazon offers shipments either "grouped together...which MAY delay shipment," or "ship items as they're available," and Amazon is just another big corporation. I certainly don't owe it to them to try to minimize expenses on their end. BUT, I see no benefit to ME in doing it the way he did...otherwise...I'd do it the same way.

I ordered printer cartridges via Prime yesterday. SUPPOSED to be delivered tomorrow...but tracking shows them shipped from Sparks, (Reno) Nevada yesterday, but stuck in West Sacramento since 0400 today...blamed on "extreme weather conditions."
The only "extreme" weather we have here in the valley is wind...and it's not THAT damned windy. (gusts into the low 40 mph range) <shrug> No biggie...they'll get here when they get here...but I'm glad I'm not paying for the 2-day service.
