I lost $300 buying a lawnmower

I bought this $300 lawnmower at Canadian Tire and then it worked for about 10 minutes before completely stopping. Im Canadian ;-)

I took it back to Canadian Tire and they said "No returns on lawnmowers, manufacturer warranty only"

So I took it to the manufacturer (Yardworks) to fix it. They said I broke it myself. I DID NOTHING, but they insisted that it was my fault. I simply took it out, assembled it and it broke.

The refused to fix and even demanded $20 service charge. I got PO'ed but they did nothing. They wouldn't let me even take the machine back until I had paid the $20.

I have tried everything. Contacting CT, emailing and complaining to the manufacturer, etc.

Now my lawnmower is still at the manufacturer.

what should I do now?

Help is greatly appreciated

Edit: Yes, I filled the tank halfway with gas

So they claim you broke it ... what exactly did you do, fail to add oil before starting it? 😕

Please believe me, I did absolutely nothing to it.

Edit: They claim that the engine burned.

I used this card to purchase

Can they help me?

That's a mastercard. Call and dispute the charges immediately.

The one issue you run into is the fact that you purchased it at one place, took it to another and then they are holding it. Call the CC company and tell them everything that happened.

I bought it a month and a half ago. I spent a month trying to sort this mess.

I already paid. 🙁

Consider you won't even tell US any details about how it broke, I wouldn't trust you either. Someone asked you if you failed to put oil in before starting and you just said "I did nothing'

I can't tell if you're a little slow or not. Did Yardworks tell you what was wrong with it? For the $20, they should have been able to diagnose the problem and give you a quote to fix it.

You also mentioned you paid them the $20, so why do they still have it?

I bought a brand new Honda mower from Home Depot, it ran for about 1 minute tops before it stalled out. The engine would not budge when I tried the pull rope. It would be very hard for me not to have put the oil in ahead of time since the bottle was attached to the pull cord handle with a big yellow caution sign yet this is the same thing that Home Depot tried to say I did. The idiot there stuck his highly calibrated finger in the oil hole and decided that based on the fact that the oil was clear as if somehow it would have become blackened in 60 seconds of run time. They did replace the mower though after putting me through a lot of crap first.

You burned the engine. That means there was no oil in it. Did you put in any oil?

As long as you assembled it and operated it per the provided instructions I would defintely contact your credit card company and hold the charge. If you have something similar to small claims court here in the states that may well be your next step if stopping the charge does not get it resolved for you.

I havent paid yet, they still have the lawnmower

You last updated saying you filled it halfway with gas but have not mentioned whether you put oil into it or not. I think that you filled the oil reservoir with gas!!!
