I live in Russia, so

I like Russia and hope to see it do well in the future.

Even during the Cold War, I did not hate the Russians -- mainly because of James Bond movies which usually feature a sexy female Russian spy who later would team up with James Bond to defeat the weird super-villain. Also, when I watched past Olympics, I would always like the sexy female russian ice skaters or gymnists.

For me, it's the women that counts. If a country or group of people have good looking women, then it's hard for me to dislike them. And Russian women are very good looking.

Also, in grad school, I met a few Russians and they were extremely smart. So, I have a high opinion on your people's technical abilities. Same with the Indians I met. Under the right circumstances, I'm sure your country will become very prosperous.

Dear, and it not seems to you, that each person has the right to the personal opinion. And, about a monarchy, look at England. Unless Englishmen badly live? Yes, they do not have ABSOLUTE MONARCHY, but queen has influence on a politics of the state, so...

English royalty has ******-all to do with their current govt or standard of living

I believe that Russia will be the next China. My eldest Chinese-American born daughter(who already speaks Mandarin and a little Cantonese) is now learning Russian at our local publilc high school. Russia has a lot of raw material and oil so that means a strong possibility to do business there if the Russians can enforce the law and the extortions/bribes come to an end.

Well said, Russia is poised to become an economical superpower with vast natural resources that will be instrumental. China and India are only beginning to consume the enormous quantities of resources that will be needed to facilitate their industrial/infrastructure growth.

ARadan, Welcome to AT. Russia is not seen in nearly the same light as 10-20 years ago in the US. IMO Russia is one of our most trusted and important allies. In the eyes of most Americans the fall of the Soviet Union made Russia seem like a new America per se, in the context of freedom for the average person, free markets, press, etc. We identify with your current struggles, having gone through many of them ourselves. I would imagine our parents would say they were worlds apart while our generation would say we are more alike than not. G/L to you comrade.....

I think that Russia has great potential to be a strong US ally going forward. I have been disappointed in some of the recent decisions by Putin. The latest: the choke hold he put on Ukraine by stopping the flow of natural gas to force them into concessions is a frightening move. It seems that Putin is using Russia's energy reserves in much the same way as Kruschev used Russia's nuclear arsenal---to intimidate neighboring countries into submission.

Russia has a very rich history, and with strong (non-dictatorial) leadership, she could truely be a force for good in the world. Her people are good (for the most part...we all have our bad apples) but lately it seems that its the leadership that is trying to turn back the clock and reassert strong central control.

Ignore this guy ARadan, he's just some whacko posting from his trailer somewhere deep in a LA Swamp.

Russia has one of the most intriguing history and culture in the world. I love the accent and the written language, it just sounds and looks cool. Plus, I'm forever indebted for the gift of vodka.
