I saw her making comments on mic on several occasions over the last month or more and was really impressed. Talks plain and to the point. Yes, her city has big problems, a legendary gun violence problem, I heard there are neighborhoods that the cops stay out of for fear, but Lori Lightfoot isn't about doubletalk or prevarication. Her tough talk on pandemic restrictions shows she's got brains.

She has largely been a disappointment. She ran as a political outsider and reformer but her administration has been weak. She bowed to the Chicago Teachers Union and gave them a huge salary increase. Her response to the rioting was awful. She regularly gets into fights with alderman, and has defended egregious behavior by the Chicago Police Department.

I guess the lesson learned is that one lone outsider isn’t enough to fight the entrenched corruption in a place like Chicago.

Lenny Bruce, who I believe was from Chicago said he knew the world is corrupt but that "Chicago is so corrupt it's thrilling."

Eh I didn't really have a lot of expectations of her but put me down as mostly unimpressed. Then again there aren't a lot of mayors who do impress me. Anyway she's not been able to consolidate power over the aldermen like her predecessors which has led to problems. When challenged by the public she quickly becomes prickly, irritable, and standoffish. As for dealing with the teacher, cops, and fire unions those hands only have so much room to be played.

Best way to stop the corruption in Chicago, talk about it in front of media, without the governors staff even knowing about this plan. Then start a corruption probe on all of the teachers unions. Lastly, use the state troopers as the police officers in the areas of Chicago that regular police officers are afraid to go to.
