I like geese

Long neck, tiny head.

I want one as a pet.

I would not want one.

First off they are very aggressive, to the point of attacking people for no fing reason, they are very loud and finally just imagine how much shit it does for a decent sized bird like that.

Same could be said about dogs.

Yeah they are cute. I always want to hug them when I see them around here, but they get very hissy whenever I approach. :colbert:

Freaking awful creatures with no redeeming qualities at all. They're aggressive shit-machines that foul any piece of land they walk on. There should be a bounty on their heads.

We had one. They really don't make nice pets. Come mating season, it went over to our neighbor's house & attacked the neighbor. The goose won. Vicious little bastards. He was gone that night. We were fortunate that the neighbor wasn't too bent out of shape about it. The goose was removed that night.

Oh, and a goose will walk a mile, just so it can shit on concrete.

I actually got to go close to a flock in fall. Typically we don't see them here other than when they're flying south or north. They're so huge! You don't realize till you get up close to them just how big these birds are.

Why are there so many pictures of geese impaled with arrows?? 😵 Do people shoot geese for amusement?

No, I'm guessing some hunter shot that goose, thinking he was going to kill it. Looks like that has a field point on it. In case you've never shot a bow, except perhaps for a little kids bow, a decent hunting bow will put that arrow through a sheet of plywood. I have no idea how it got stuck in the goose's head, unless perhaps it was a weird angle shot down toward the ground & the goose pulled that arrow free from the ground.

I suspect this is simply a case of teenage geese rebeling by getting a piercing, using a lost arrow that they found in a field.

Clean, round entry wound, same diameter as the shaft. Doesn't look like this was done by a game point, which tend to be a bit wider than the shaft. Looks like a bullet point, which I don't think are normally used for hunting. It also looks like a pretty short arrow from the picture. The ones I use for target shooting are about the length of your arm. Small looking knock too. That's most likely a crossbow bolt. Probably some hick got one at the local bass pro and decided shooting at target butts (or the car door) was getting boring.

Geese though are getting to be a bit of a problem. They're like pigeons in that they breed like crazy, are a health hazard due to their frequent defecation, and they aren't afraid of humans. Unlike pigeons, they're not particularly bright. They'll tend to stand ground and attack a much larger foe, be it a person, car, or airplane. I always say God made them football shaped for a reason.

I like them. They are a shining example of the success of protecting endangered species. When I was growing up I could only read about them, they had pretty much been hunted close to extinction in Virginia and Maryland. They have rebounded so well that people with no memory of them not being around consider them pests.

Use to hunt them as a kid; now that they are protected and no longer migrate; they have become a pest.
Any pond becomes a magnet and they destroy the banks.

I like them, and their fuck the world attitude. It amuses when humans get irate at animals that demonstrate human-like attributes :^D I don't especially want to own any though. I always wanted an ostrich. It would have been awesome having one when my daughter was little so she could ride around on it. That would be an unbeatable childhood memory.
