The OP has chosen to fix the heap, and its his choice.

it's not like cars suddenly self-destruct after 100k. There are plenty of beaters that are mechanically sound.

So is your whole purpose of having a beater to piss others off? Because that would definitely qualify as being an asshole.

BTW, cracked windshields are illegal.

I don't, I drove a beater because it was cheaper, ran fine, and still got good gas mileage. The majority of beater owners don't go out of their way to stick it to people driving nice cars.

Cracked windshields aren't illegal until a certain point.

I'm driving my beater car today as well, because of the rain...

1994 Plymouth Acclaim... so crappy, the windsheild wipers don't work 1/2 the time... Now that's interesting driving!

Either the Corvette or the Z28 that's in this photo.

not bad, i thought those vettes were rather tricky to handle, ie they spin out rather easy? and dude please change those plastic looking way to small chrome rims on the Z28

Plastic looking way to small chrome rims? I don't know what that means, but everything on the car right now is stock.

The Z28 actually spins out easier since it's not as balanced as the Corvette. The Z28's rear end is rather light.

It's time to get a new car if the car is unreliable, if it is reliable, all a car is really needed for is to move you from place to place, everything else is really just extra...

Having a flash car is only useful during those years that you are still actively chasing tail every chance you get.

I think I have about ten more years of this tail chasing before I've settled down.

Once settled down you have no reason to drive a flash car......who are you impressing??

If I'd had a beater right then I would just smashed into his rear quarter panel and sent him spinning off the road while I drove my beater away and his expensive ass Lexus was fvcked

The funny thing is that if you'd been driving one of those old land yachts, it wouldn't have happened in the first place. People stayed the hell out of my way when I had my 77 Grand Marquis. Never got cut off, merged into, tailgated, or anything.

depends on the state, each state has its own guidelines on what is allowed

my cracks are not in the "primary field of vision" or whatever so it passes the inspection with it

and some states don't do any inspections at all, so unless a police office stops you, nobody cares

My GTO's lease is up in September and the prudent thing for me to do is get a reliable car/SUV that can handle Michigan/Midwest winters, since my first car after I settle down somewhere will be a C5 'vette.

It's going to suck transitioning from the GTO to whatever's next though.

I actually wish I had a beater car now. The times my car got keyed and the (now 3) dings I have in the door was during daily runs. :(

Ha! I drive a 96 Ford Escort 5 speed with 120,000 miles. I LOVE to park it in Nordstoms when I go to the mall!

I also have:

91 Ford Escort LX 5 speed. 201,000 miles (I LOVE this car)
89 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 75,000 miles
87 Ford F-350 with utility body 256,000 miles
99 Lincoln Towne Car (Mint) 153,000 miles
70 Coupe DeVille 53,000 miles
73 Ford F250 280,000 miles (not on road)

But I drive the 96 Escort everywhere. Cheap insurance, no car payments and I can park it anywhere and not worry.

:)

well I suppose it depends how you use the car as well. If your only going 200 miles week average....then most any car is going to perform well enough for you.

I work for a company where most of the people here are well off. I see a lot of luxery brand vehicles

You see a lot of "luxery" brands? I guess that's why you drive a beater.

When writing this thread I knew it would entice you to slither on into it. Your parody is highly laughable.

Drove my old beater into the ground... '82 Toyota brown 4 door hatchback of some sort. Had a blue door. Leaked when it rained. Muffler kept falling off. Windshield wipers didn't work, so driving it in the rain was a PITA.

Hey now, I know I'm an asshole and proudly admit it, but don't lump the rest of those unsavory folks in with me ;)

Besides, I'm only an assholes to loved ones and other assholes who deserve it. You sound like you deserve it.

Well I can see why you didn't see anybody in front of you, but no tailgaters? I could hardly get my 91 past the 80 point (it finally worked its way up to 84 and stopped) with the pedal in the firewall. ;)

Ironicly though, both of the "one lunged buzz-box" 4 bangers I've driven in, I've gotten over 110 passing on the interstate before I backed off.

The 302 wasn't amazing. Trying to push it like I was (I was gunning it making a trip from KS to SC in a straight shot) I got about 19mpg off a full interstate tank at ~80mph. Around town when I was driving to work every day I was getting getting 12. Once the engine started misfiring (around the end of its life) I worked my way as low as 7mpg. lol

There are times when I miss that car though. I started driving that car around the time I started dating my now-wife girlfriend. That was an amazing car for the summer night cruises down the backroads just outside of town, windows down and music up. And plenty of seating room for parking. :D

Drive an '87 Chevy Caprice with 210,000 miles and a '70 Ford Ranger F250 with 351,000 miles as a back-up that I paid less than $1500 apiece. Everyone gets out of the way when I pop up in thier rearview mirror...and don't spend any money on them other than regular maintenance. Don't really care about vehicles as long as they get me from point A to point B. I make close to six figures a year and could go out and buy a trendy piece of plastic crap without any thought to what it would cost, but I choose to put the money in the bank or help out my family and friends with the money that I would have spent on car payments. A new car is the WORST major financial investment you can make...what other piece of property depreciates by at least 10% the very minute you take possesion?

Oh, BTW- I REALLY don't care what you drive- I'm not impressed. I prefer to judge the person for who they are and what they stand for, not because they do or do not have a new car....

Beaters FTW!!!!!!
