Bondo can be applied over rust spots, but what about where the metal's actually bendy along the bottom edge? I don't think bondo could help that.

It's a 92 Sable. It runs pretty well and I hope it to last me as long as possible so I'd say it's worth fixing. Maybe not worth spending hundreds of dollars on though...

do not sink money into a 13 year old car that runs "pretty well". drive it as is, or sell it.

edit: i just saw the pics. i wouldn't sink money into that car. 1) it doesn't look all that bad. 2) its not worth more than the repairs would cost 3) the repairs aren't likely to extend the life that much more

i could be wrong, but i wouldn't even consider getting it painted/repaired or patched for anything more than 100
When you are talking about repairs (not aesthetical things) with a car of this age, it's pretty tough deciding what to do and what not to do, or what's worth getting fixed and what isn't. My policy has been to fix things that either a) really annoy me personally, or b) affect my safety while driving, or c) something that will shorten the life of the car if I do not get it fixed. If it does not fall into one of those three categories, I will probably not get it fixed. Or, if it does fall into one of those categories, but if it would require "guesswork" to fix (meaning replace a part, see if it helps, replace another part, see if that helps), then I probably wouldn't do it either.

This rust falls into the "annoys me" category. I don't like to see it. So, it's worth it to get it fixed, but as you said, not for more than $100. Like I said, I'm just looking for a cheap way to mask this. I know the rust can easily be sanded and spraypainted, but my main concern is strengthening the weak metal that can be seen in the third pic. But I don't know if that's possible without spending some dough.
