wow... that's a waste of gas though. I'm all for letting your car warm up when it's cold, but it shouldn't take a half hour. 10 minutes tops.

Just wait until tomorrow when the title becomes, "I was letting my car warm up and someone stole it"

$1.96 here. I still wouldn't let my car idle for a half hour even if it's $1/gallon. It's just wasting gas.

It's $1.85 here.

OP, do you have a keyless starter? Also, did you turn on the defrosters before you left the car for the night?

what kind of car needs half an hour to get warm? 5 minutes is more than enough to get things nice and toasty

i think the general consensus in this thread is that the OP is at least an idiot, and maybe an asswipe, too.

While I think a 1/2 hour is not really needed, I think some of you are looking at this in terms of how cold it is near you. When you come out in the morning and the temperature is single numbers or lower, do you think you might need to warm up your car a bit longer so that it's warm inside as well as warm in the engine? I ran mine the other morning about 10-15 minutes because I like getting in the car with it somewhat warmed up, I had to get some of the 1/4" ice coating off the car, and it was this cold.

Up in Canada, it's been -10 to -20 in areas....I'd say a 1/2 hour in that isn't all that crazy in thos conditions...
