Incorrect strategy. Women tend to be more of a "what have you done for me lately" type rather than the "Oh, yeah, you bought me this nice purse 6 months ago, so I forgive you for running over my flower garden" type.

Time to use my extra credit now before it expires.

My woman is nice enough not to ask me to hold her purse too much, though sometimes she does and it's annoying.

I used to have a friend that bought his girl $1500 purse......that was the last day he was my friend (not for that reason alone, but it played a part)

No joke

And get this, recently I found out he married her.

Was it the "my buddy is going down the 'This is Serious... to be a married man' road" aspect that caused the "he is now no longer defined as a good friend" reaction?

I've experienced this, but I expect it. It's already started happening with another one of our little group.
Worst part, I fully expect, plan, and hope to move out of this damned city (I think it's literally damned - Detroit is an infectious disease on this region and we're "Little Detroit" or "Detroit Jr" :(). But it's going to suck leaving since my best buddies (none in college compared) and most of my family are here.

I'm only posting here because I noticed 127 responses to a very simple title and even simpler full statement.

An investigation of what is going on here will be pending :hmm:

The ones from the outlet centers are even worse and they act like they're hot shit sporting them.

Meow? Purse envy? Pro-tip, guys are not suppose to care about purses...not that there's anything wrong with that...so don't take offense :sneaky:

Thanks, I'm still learning English, it's my 3rd language. The grammatical handling of tenses is very confusing.
Because it sounds the same even with the correct tense I see it written incorrectly more often than I see it written correctly, which is what compelled me to say something. I suspect non-native English speakers/writers who didn't learn by hearing would be more likely to get it right than a native but not if you keep seeing it that way and no one says anything.

Just ignore me though. Your English is better than just about anyone else on these forums and it was more for their sakes.

Yes, of course. Sam Waltons (drove a crappy pickup truck), Warren Buffet (still lives in a modest house) and others like them must be poor. :D <tonge in cheek>

You guys need to read the book "Millionaires Next Door".

lol i was going to post this.

I learned early to never judge a person by his car/house etc. A few friends/business partners of my father are multi-millionaire. One has lived in the same house for like 40 years and drove cars until they broke down.

Another buys a new house every few years but nothing amazing. Same with his cars.

also i live in the country. you would be amazed how rich some of these "farmers"* are.
not every rich person blows it on insane houses and cars.

*I put that in quotes because there are a few retired business men wanting a "simple" life. they want to putz around on the land and usually just help the other farmers.

I bought my ex bags from Bottega Veneta & LV years ago (She also has expensive Chanel & Hermes bags). Regret the decision now although she bought me some expensive Burberry / Prada / Dolce & Gabbana /Gucci suit & LV wallet for my own gifts.

My mother isn't as materialistic and she thinks Coach is nice. I went to the outlet store and bought like three purses for around $300 during sale time and gave it to her for Christmas, she was happy.

A friend of mine used to work as a buyer for cruise ships. Her job was to establish partnerships with shops on shore and market their goods on board. Designer jewelry and clothing being a big thing. She used to get stuff at cost, Gucci being her favourite. She's got loads of it. The stuff is basically worthless. Though I'm sure most people know that but we're hardwired to seek the unobtainable. Keeping up with the Jones. Despite the recession, 80s style materialism is back baby, and stronger than ever.

I have my own business and was taken out to lunch by the owners of a another company we are working with. The main owner was driving us around in his lowest model Kia and then decided to tell me over lunch how many houses he has built and sold as a side job. Pretty down to earth people and you would only know because we got to talking about business. I am a Civil Engineer.

I think guys should know about fashion as females like guys who know fashion or can dress well. Some people want expensive bags because it makes them feel more accomplished. I am working to buy myself a plane so I can travel when I want without all of the hassles.

Yup. I have personally seen with my own eyes how some of the multi millionaires (from oil and gas) in real life (not ATOT/internet bragging) driving around in Chevy trucks and average sedans, living in modest houses.

A very rich friend told me "Do you want a good doctor drives a crappy car or do you want an expensive car driven by a crappy doctor?"
