I know you all hate SUVs ;) but.... which one is the best?

I'm thinking about Leasing an SUV... trust me I know how they are and i've seen the stupid a$$hole drivers in action. Let me tell you i'm not that way... in fact it seems like I drive one of the smallest cars on the road in my area (detroit) (91' Capri Convertible).

Anyways.... I like stuff along the lines of the explorer ... I mean come on guys... I've gotta have some privacy with my girl (if i ever get another one ...lol) by being higher up and having some space in the back. *hint hint*

Price is a object too... 🙁 looking on the lines of a cheap lease, with a sexy car.

thanks!
🙂

Toyota Highlander the larger/affordable version of it's big brother the Lexus RX300 or the new Honda Pilot the younger sibling of the Acura MDX.

u might wanna take a look at the Honda Pilot that comes out in a month or so....

It all depends on what you are going to use it for... are u going to go off-roading? If so you need something with more power that's built on a truck frame... but if not, it might make sense to get something like the Pilot or Tribute to save some money on gas in the future...

Hell yeah...must pimp the '02 Highlander Limited since we have one 😀 Just took it for it's first oil change/tire rotation @ the Toyota dealer. It's an EXCELLENT SUV and even with the 220HP 3.0 liter V6 it's been averaging 21.4 - 24.2 MPG combined city/highway.

People NEVER give enough info when they post their "what ... should I buy"?

What's your price range?
Do you prefer domestic or import?
Do you need a large seating capacity or is standard 5 people ok?
Give us some ideas on what class of SUV you're looking for, what are some current SUVs you have your eye on?
Do you wad up or fold your TP?

Well, I was all there with a bunch of suggestions, until I hit your last paragraph:

<< Price is an object... >>

That kinda limits you a wee bit. Like, quite a bit. You're looking to lease? Why? It's pointless, UNLESS someone else (i.e. company car) is paying for it. If all you want is to "ride up higher than the rest of traffic." And to "have a truck." Look into leasing something along the lines of a Nissan XTerra. Or, being that it's a lease, I'm sure you can lease a Ford Explorer or even an Expedition at your local dealer.

Damn you posted 3 minutes after me, your Toyota radar must be on 24/7 😀

If you don't intend to take it off-road, the Highlander is a very tempting package. You really need to figure out what size/price class you are looking for before you decide, since there are a panoply of different categories of SUVs nowadays. Since you intend to lease, it makes sense to go with a car with high resale (in a lease, you are basically subsidizing the depreciation), so Honda and Toyota are probably the best bet (with Nissan third). The Highlander is really not suited to off-road use, though (my aunt has an RX300 and its front end goes out of whack every time she takes it off road, which she does with some regularity, living in Arizona).

There's nothing wrong with SUV's. Not sure where you got that. Who would want to drive anything smaller? I love the room my SUV has. Perfect for long trips and camping. Not to mention moving large objects. Pick-ups can do that too, but they have limited seating. I was designated driver Saturday, and drove 6 people, plus myself, since I have a 3rd row of seating.

I got the Durango. I wish I hadn't now. I want a Toyota Sequoa (sp?), but they weren't out in Nov 99. The Durango gave me the size and features I wanted, for my price range. 4runners are nice, but not as big as I wanted. I do like the quality of the Toyotas though. The Durango sucks living here in AZ, as it takes about 20 min for the AC to cool down. Maybe I should take it in...again. 🙁

EDIT: The Highlanders look like a large Station Wagon. Yuck!

Yeah, the Highlander and the Pilot are your best pics around $30,000. The Pilot is a bit bigger than the Highlander and has a third row seat. Personally, my family doesn't need all that space so the Highlander does just fine. And it's quite compact and easy to toss around.

I live in the Detroit area also (well at the moment i'm living in Flint), so I know what you're saying about everyone driving SUV's and pickups. I just got a '02 Ford Escape XLT myself because I couldn't afford the Audi wagon I wanted. It's pretty nice, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting something cheap. It's really carlike as far as how it drives, they tried to talk me into an explorer sport for the same price but it drove like crap IMO.

I really like my 2k2 Ford Explorer its fun to drive, has great amenities, and powerful V8, i havent had a chance to play with the 4x4 much.

<< For sheer, flat-out good looks, this is the all time winner! >>

Ack! Until now I thought the X5 was the best-looking SUV, but that modded-out Suzuki X90 has really changed my tune . . .

For me if I were ever to get a SUV my choice would be the Acura MDX... I just love the look of it, and inside it's soooo comfortable...

my 2nd choice would be the 4Runner...

btw, i'm looking at gettings something that has at least 1 row seating behind the driver's seat.
Price range: ehhh.... as cheap as I can get.
Import / Export?: Doesn't really matter as long as it's nice / price is good.

I currently have my eye on an newer model Explorer... or something of that sort. They seem to be cheap and drive great.

thanks everyone, I really appreciate it and i'm looking into some of those vehicals. Suprised @ no flames 🙂

Folded tp or Wadded? whatever feels better at the time, lol 😉

I'd have to agree with the Acura. The Nissan Pathfinder is nice also.

<< X5 >>

hmmm... i find myself agreeing with a sooner twice in one week... world must be coming to an end...

or the escalade. not the truck one though. its ass.

How about Nissan Xterra. You said you are on small budget, I think it's pretty affordable.
Or you can get Pathfinder, or even better wait for the Murano to come out. 3.5L V6 with CVT tranny. Should be cool.
Highlander is nice too. Although RX300 and highlander are girly SUVs.

Isuzu makes nice trucks... I bought my Rodeo in 95, but 2 of my coworkers are leasing theirs... 98 and 00 model Rodeos. They're great for their price (< $30k easy) so that'll help your lease price.
