I know this may sound sacreligious, but....

has anyone considered putting aside our differences and joining forces with BBR in a joint effort? The combined total WUs would put us into first by a margin of more than 11% over the current #1 team.

Perhaps a new group name could be TeAm BBR, or AnandBBR, or just plain TeAm AnandTech/BBR.

It works for business... why not for SETI?

just a thought. Please do not berate me too harshly.

This has been mentioned in the recent past :) Also it has been mentioned before that too. All times the general concensus is "Thanks, but no thanks"

I imagine there would be more people who would be opposed to the merger than those who would be for the merger. I for one, am very glad to have BBR as such brilliant friends and competitors. This is all to do with the competition. Without the competition, it would be very boring, IMHO. I would not like to be part of the #1 team if we had to merge with another to get there :) I am sure many on BBR would feel the same way :)

I agree. While it would be cool to be the #1 overall team I don't think a merger is the way to do it (cough Compaq/HP cough). And as Confused said, the best part of it is the competition between the TeAm and BBR. Without it I don't think either of us would be anywhere near as powerful as we currently are.

Go TeAm! :D

RIGHT ON!

We strive on the freindly competition to increase the science and have FUN! :)
I believe there would be no more FUN in it to be #1 just to say we finished first! That's my stake on it!

Ok. Consider me sufficiently pummeled for the suggestion (glad to hear I'm not the first!).

I'll admit you all have a sound argument against a merger and I am convinced that it would not be in the best interest of either team.

Go TeAm!

It would be like Tanya Harding winning an ice skating competition after breaking her competitor's leg.

She might count it as a victory, but nobody else would. Plus, nobody would pay us for movie and story rights. :)

hehe...also..you guys forget..

while there are some 3200 teamates ...only about 400? are active regularly so that means that those 400 would switch along w/ the 400 active on BBR yet a HUGE GLUT of ppl would remain on their respective teams due to inactivity and the combined team would probably be LOWER in the end :)

Now THAT is how to spice up SETI. Add a "Hostile Takeover" feature!

Allow groups to "challenge" another groups right to exist, then, within a specified time limit, a certain percentage of each group's members would have to do something (email, or click something, or visit the "hostile takeover arena" or something), then, by some really fancy calculation based on participation in the takeover battle, either the attacking team successfully absorbs the defending team, or the defenders successfully thwart the takeover attempt, leaving the attacker weakened (for a while) and vulnerable to attack from other fronts!

It would be AWESOME!

Hm, movie rights on S@H victory ... It should be hitting the box office with about the same revenue as that Halle Barry "Monster's Ball" movie. She got an award, but did anyone care? :p

Also, hostile takeover... I'm reminded of Kings of Chaos and/or Outwar... anyone else?

I'll second that.

It wasn't that long ago both teams were trying to break into the top 10. and we've been trading positions and chasing each other before that.

sometimes they seem more like a dance partner than a competitor. at the moment they are stepping on our toes.:p
